Question About Aircraft Incidents - Reporting
Hey everyone. Here is my situation. Hopefully someone can help with this.
Back at 9K I was involved in an incident. I had the nose gear collapse upon landing. It was determined to be 100% mechanical and no fault of my own.
So while it was not my fault (thankfully), I don't know how this is viewed in terms of the FAA. Will this be listed on my flight records in OKC?
When I went to AWAC I requested copies of my records from Cape when filling out the PRIA request. I don't believe I saw anything from those records that stated I had an incident.
Long story short I am trying to figure this out for the following reason:
I do not want to select the "Incident" box when applying at the majors if, according to the FAA, I have no incidents.
Vice Versa - I don't want to submit apps now with it clicked YES (because im not sure) only to try and backtrack if I find out that I don't have anything on my record.
I have requested my records from the Feds, but it is taking forever. I have no clue whats going on. I've read it can take 6-8 weeks or more to get them back to you. Naturally, I want to fill out apps ASAP. Its frustrating not knowing for sure.
Finally here is the link to the incident from the AIDS database.
AIDS Batch Brief
It doesn't include my name or appear to say anything about fault.
Any thoughts as to how I should proceed?
Thanks everyone,
James

Nobody is out to get you - but they do want to see that you're honest and disclose everything.
I think you having a nose gear collapse in an airplane full of passengers is something you absolutely want to disclose, no matter what.

All you ever wanted to know about release of information from the FAA: https://www.faa.gov/pilots/lic_cert/...OIA_and_PA.pdf

I had about a half dozen incidents when I interviewed successfully at two different legacies. None were my fault. The more you fly the more you'll have. I put down anything that meets the NTSB definition on the apps (flap malfunction, engine failure, single hydraulic system ...)
Don't be paranoid.

Just an FYI on an incident I have in my logbook. Had a hard landing that did damage to the airframe but was not pilot at the controls. Told the interviewer about it. Only response was so long as there isn't an active FAA violation or investigation, it's not that big of a deal. It's more about disclosure than anything else.
