Default Thank you letters after a Job Fair!

Does anyone still send thank you cards to recruiter these days?

Does it make someone stand out, or in this day and age, are the airline recruiters tired of it?

I think how you perform at the job fair coupled with your resume is how you stand out, BUT a thank you letter/card is most appropriate, I feel.

At the least, it can't hurt, but make it professional and sincere. A card you pick up at Spencer's is obviously not appropriate.

Where would you send it to?

Yeah, why not!!!! Playing nice is a good idea as well as good manners. The nicer you are, the more referrals you may receive from them.

I did. Not sure it gained me anything. It's still an HR point system on the app. No points for the letter.
Still, I did because that's how I was raised.

Of *course* it makes a difference.

It shows that you actually give a damn, taking the time to thank someone for talking with you and gives you yet another opportunity to reiterate how much you want to work for their company.

The flip side to the argument is this: the upside of a thank-you card is it gets your name in front of a recruiter (again) and could move your resume to a short stack..the downside is that it might be a waste of your time? Given the cost and effort involved with attending a job fair, that seems like a pretty favorable risk/reward proposition to me.

We tell our clients to always write a thank you card after a job fair or conference. Best case is they will look at your application again. Worst case is they throw it out.

When I interviewed for a place years ago (granted, it was somewhat smaller than a major airline), I was specifically told when I got the job that I got it because I was the only one of my interview group, all with strong resumes, who bothered to send a thank you note.

Just send one. It may get you the job and it won't hurt you.
