I was told 100-200hrs in the last year as a professional pilot. The advice I got was that the most recognized path to the majors was to slug it out at the regionals or dodge mortars at the ISR contractors if you were a military dude and didn't leave active duty flight current. There are regional pilots jumping ship to join the ISR contractors. If that's an option for you they're not as worried about you getting flight current as long as you can get a clearance.

Make sure you already have a DOD clearance if you go ISR route. I have TS/SCI with poly from a 3 letter agency and they would not touch me.

Having just come from the ISAR community, it's largely "who you know" in my experience. I've seen some good guys, and some really bad ones. It's a double edged sword.....no doubt about it. Great way to get current if the opportunity arises though. Lots of time quickly, good pay......but paid that amount for a reason.

Yeah, the who you know is huge. Unfortunately, I did not know anyone and never got a call back. Leaving my current desk job to go back to 121. My clearance is good for 18 months so maybe I'll get a call before then. Yes, thanks to my current position I was able to see what the reqs were paying these folks. It's definitely good money even before tdy and hazard.
