And tips for during the process of all of this since I have to start making decisions since I've dropped the ERAU plan because of all the money it requires. Thank you very much-I don't know if I'll get replies lol
As a High school student currently, you are certainly highly addicted to video games... yesss?

Get your degree in software engineering, CGI animation, IT... or any combination thereof... and then when you get hired at Google, PIXAR, LUCAS, DISNEY.. etc.. buy your own plane, start a 135 operation, hire pilots, fly when you want. As you grow, buy more airplanes and transition the 135 certificate to 121, fly when you want.... play more video games. Make millions.

This has been a topic for years and the answer has not changed. Get your degree and enjoy college life.

Even if it's a Online degree in Aeronautical Science???

If you don't like "computer stuff", you might have a problem in modern jet aircraft.

Check out Twitch streams. People making six figure incomes for just playing video games. No college degree required.

The ultimate question is whether get a online degree in any nonsense on the side such as accounting etc or get the degree in Aeronautical science and use it only in Aviation stuff and get 500 hours cut off on my ATP ?

Understood, but hopefully you do know that flying modern jet aircraft is nothing but a video game with only one "life"? With the added responsibility of many other lives with only "one life"? All the while you may make 30-50k if qualified to fly?

Again, Twitch streamers make six figure incomes from home (most of the time in their underwear after rolling out of bed) shooting others on a video game. No college degree necessary.

I think this has gone off topic a little...

The important thing for the long haul to being a Airline Pilot is to get a college degree. It doesn't matter in what, but as others have said get it in something you like outside of aviation as a backup skill if things go bad, like lost of medical, 911 type event etc.

Ultimately there is the possibility that a degree may not be needed but again as others have said they will always take a degreed person 90% of the time over a non degree person. Networking would be key to making that work. In college you meet a lot of people which help kick start a network to help you if you don't have someone who can help you get in. That can be why ERAU can be helpful in that matter.

One option could be get your flying licenses outside of colleg at your local FBO and get a AA at a local college. Finish your BA at ERAU to get the networking help as a cost savings way to do stuff. I personally did my 4 year degree at ERAU and made a lot of good friends which has helped me a little getting started. I knew no one in aviation when I started. So the name does help in some ways like people I have never met willing to throw me a bone to move ahead in my career.

No matter what you do, there will be times when your done that you will be able to say had I done it this way I could have saved so much money. Hindsight is 20/20.

Good luck either way.

This might be mean but I'm going to be honest. I hope it's at least 5 years before you are flying my family down to Disney.

Edit: directed toward OP.
