Default Duty period limitations for reserve? (FedEx)

Talking with some friends, there seems to be confusion about a reserve's duty period. In Sec 12B, Duty Period Limitations, seems as if only trips, deadheads, and standbys are addressed.

The question Im trying to answer is when does a reserve's duty period start? A) Start of reserve period.
B) Start of show time of assigned pairing?

Second part...how long is the duty period (12C4,5)(?)

Finally...where in the contract is this covered?

Thanks,
FNG

This is a confusing thing, but basically your duty period is 16 hours that begins when your reserve period starts; so 0130, 0730, 1330, or 2030 and add 16 hours to it and your toast. That's why you have to be blocked in minus 30 minutes before the end of 4 hours past your reserve period. (R 12hrs + 3.5 + 30min debrief = 16hrs)

Anybody please shed light on this if I'm wrong.

So if you get called for a trip that show's at 0200, does that fall into 'critical' or are you on duty until 1730, assuming A reserve?

Sec 25.M.1.f covers the 4hr rule after the end of your RP. Beware the 2 conditions that this does not apply! ie if you accept a crew notification via vips for an trip that is far enough out to give you an intervening legal rest period prior to the show time of that trip you duty time starts at the show time of the trip!

Sec 12.C.4.c covers critical duty period. Critical period starts at 0100 LBT.

I guess I should rephrase the earlier question, if a reserve is assigned a trip which falls into 'critical' showtime, is that reserve on duty until 1730 or showtime plus 1030? We'll assume no deadheading and notified less than 8 hrs.

You fall under the most restrictive rule. If you got launched off RA in the critical period you're max Scheduled duty would be 9+00. BUT once checked in you could go to 10+30.

For those on reserve, here's a little technique that has worked for me in the past. With reference to the above, if you are logging onto VIPS and see a crew notification, DON'T, I repeat, DON'T click on the notification. If you do, then you cannot do anything else, until you acknowledge that notification. Instead, go directly to you calendar, where you will see what CRS has given you. You can then decide to either immediately acknowledge that notification, or not. Your choice. This technique provides you with flexibility when it's in your best interests to know what they have in store for you, but you don't want to buy directly into it immediately, for whatever reason.

Better yet, call a buddy and have him look at your calendar. That way the IT guys can't ever come back at you and prove that you had logged on.

Did I just say that out loud?

Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
