Default Collierville Questions

All,

Looking at potentially relocating and was wondering about the different Collierville neighborhoods.

1. How are the areas around Johnson Park and Memphis National?
2. How is the school system in Collierville?
3. How about the neighborhoods south of Poplar and Winchester?
4. What are the places to avoid?
5. In general, would you recommend Collierville?

I really appreciate the help.

Colllierville is a good choice for relocation to the Memphis area. The schools are a step above those within the Memphis city limits, but get crowded as you reach the high school level. Depending on which neighborhood you enter, the zoning for high school is being fought as we speak. Houston High School could possibly be in the mix for some areas. It is a fine school. There are several private schools in the Collierville area also.

Neighborhoods in C'ville are all great for the most part. Depends on the size and price of house that you are looking for. The neighborhoods north of Johnson Park along Wolf River Pkwy are mostly new construction, high end homes. Near Memphis National there are many well established neighborhoods located off of Frank Rd and Houston Levee Rd.

There are a few fine neighborhoods south of Poplar and Winchester, off of Byhalia, and also near Forrest Hill Irene, but for the most part, you would want to stay in the North part of town.

C'ville is highly recommended for raising children in the Memphis area, although I would be remiss to not mention Fayette County as well. The areas of Arlington, Lakeland, Oakland, Hickory Withe, Piperton and Eads are a little farther out of the Metro area, but provide more for the money in the way of Housing as well as land.

Ditto...

Live near C'ville Highschool, and it's been great. Cops are on top of things in town, so there's not a whole lot of shenanigans going on.

Zman: Collierville is a nice town. We moved here in 02 and my wife and kids love it here. In the price range you are likely to be looking at it will be hard to go wrong. Its a pretty small town so it will only take about a day with a friend or realtor to narrow down your choices of neighborhoods. I would go as far south or north as I could to get away from the noise of the trains that run right through the middle of town along Poplar.

Yes we are too close to Memphis (same would be true for any large city in my opinion), but it has worked out very nicely for us.

Really nice and established neighborhoods around Johnson Park and Memphis National. There are new homes going up further north along Wolf River parkway and also along Bray Station north of Frank. Really nice and high end with prices around 120/sq ft.

Schools are great in Collierville. Tara Oaks elementary is rated one of the best elementary schools in the state located on the far NE side of Collierville.

STAY AWAY from area south of Poplar period and that goes for the rest of Memphis too. Builders are giving bonuses to buy those homes because they can't sell them due to the area.

If you are staying in Shelby County I would take Collierville over any other part of town hands down. Otherwise, Fayette county is the place to go. I think Rossville will be exploding in the next 5-10 years as a good place to go.

Generally, you are safe in Collierville anywhere North of Poplar.

Good luck in your search

There are some very nice neighborhoods and homes south of Poplar and 385. The area between Poplar and 385 is a bit depressed, but there is nothing wrong with the horse farms or posh neighborhoods down Byhalia Rd. I wouldn't avoid those areas without giving them a good look.

Stay away from the neighborhoods south of Nonconnah. They are beautiful but will eventually have serious school zoning problems.

I recommend Wasilla, Chugiak, or Eagle River. All have great schools, a host of recreation opportunities, and a great view from September-May of the Northern Lights.

If I do the Maddog--that's where I'm going...

I would avoid them without any question. Your property value will stall compared to north of Poplar. It is impossible to sell a home along the "posh" neighborhoods you are speaking of along Byhalia. Like my pops always said.......you get what you pay for.
