Lanyards...and Uniforms
#22
I wasn't the one making the stink or the excuses about lanyards.
I was just commenting that in sounds similiar to other lame excuses people make for not doing or doing certain things.
I'm surprised you even responded to the whole lanyard thing in the first place.
For the record, my pre-teen is far from a juvenile delinquent...he's just an 11 year old kid doing his best to grow up with a demanding Dad.
My liquid assets are more than sufficient so that I never had to pick up extra during negotiations. I realized it was good business to support the folks I asked to negotiate on my behalf....just like it is good business not to fly disputed pairings voluntarily.
I wear my lanyard because It's harder to lose my ID using it, and a while ago I was asked to by the folks that work on my behalf. I'm not ashamed to be part of the organization.
That's it.

I don't know about BWP's union involvement. I do think it is funny that he stated the lanyard makes him look too casual, and I think it is also quite funny that he worries about being identified by hotel employees as a pilot!
You know, someone once told me that you could make money selling
"I am an Airline Pilot" T-shirts to people like that. I didn't believe them. BWP just changed my mind.

Sounds like the people who say:
"I don't support the war, but I support our troops!"
"I support the Union, but I don't like the design of the lanyard (or the lanyard is lame")
Same kind of statement...either way. Always makes me want to ask those people "just how do you support the troops when your statements and actions show antipathy for them. Why don't you make public statements of your support." I am sure going to the VA to visit veterans is not convenient or comfortable, but Rolling Thunder did to show support....the lanyard may not be cool or comfortable, but .... do you want to make a public show of support? By the way, I also fly an American Flag from my doorstep everyday, not just the 4th of July and Memorial Day.
I go to Church more often than Easter and Christmas as well.
Are you committed? Or lukewarm? These sound like the lame excuses I hear from my pre-teen when he is trying to justify juvenile actions he is embarassed to admit he has taken.

Well...whatever. I think I read last week that management prefers the lanyards, since they are a little bit more secure than the clips and result in fewer lost ID badges- a genuine security threat.

One more thing...things must be going very well for everyone and I think it is going to continue and be a great year for us. I like this web site and it is usually very helpful with 'real' issues. But giving your fellow co-pilot a hard time is always fun...
If these are the things we have to talk about then...you know we are all doing OK...

On another thread,
Someone metioned the ALPA nipple rings. I've already sent away for three, can't wait to get 'em...
And I wear the lanyard so I don't lose or forget the damn ID, and because it shows those who look and pay attention to such things around the AOC that I am a memeber and involved...
