Default Flight Engineer

Does FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc still use Flight Engineers?
What are the requirements for that position?
How long will that position be around?

Is this some kind of time warp or "Final Countdown" situation?

No, a friend of mine is going through a medical issue right now. We were just curious if that was still an option and what the guidelines were.

Kalitta Air parked the last 747-200 last month. That was probably the last FE position in the USA on a large turbojet. There are a few carriers that still operate aircraft that require an FE but also a lot of guys walking around with FE time so I would imagine that the operators that need engineers probably have their pick. These guys still fly the DC-6 and might need engineers.

Amazing someone hasn't noticed that the FEs have been gone for going on 15 years. Anyway, there's a spattering of 727s out there still Amerijet (maybe) and Asia Pacific.

15 years? A lot of ACMI carriers were still using them up to five years or so ago.

FE's require a class 2 FAA medical, so there is that.

The question was about UPS/FedEx/DHL.... so, yeah, about 15 years.
