China!
anyone see this from the new article on the website?
"While it will start the service with three Boeing 737 freighters flown by Chinese carrier Okay Airlines, FedEx has leased nine gates at the airport, a clue to how fast it expects the market will develop."
very interesting...i guess we did this in europe until the growth was there but how long before we are flying all thru China..and can we fly point to point in China?

5 Freedoms
In Aviation there are the "5 Freedoms" which permit this, it is called Cabotage. However, each country has the ability to decide whether or not to permit Cabotage, i.e., the U.S. does not permit it in the contiguous 48.
In a nutshell the freedoms begin at most restrictive to least restrictive:
-can fly over a foreign country and will not be shot down
+can land for fuel, servicing but NO deplaning/enplaning of pax
+can drop pax
+can pick-up pax
=Cabotage (ability to fly inter-country)
Think of our Canadian Operations. US a/c are only permitted the first 4 freedoms, but not the 5th (we can go into YYX, drop freight + pick-up freight, fuel, etc. but we cannot go from YYX to YWG with freight).
My bet would be China needs us until they no longer need our speciality/background/services. They will keep a tight reign of employing their own pilots (if available) versus letting outsiders do the work. The Okay Airlines isn't new, just new to this service.
Hope this helps.

Well put.
So if we had a sort facility outside of China...say Subic...we could service any city in China (drop-off/pick-up). But by moving the facility into China we hand the flying off to someone else...

No, we don't currently pick up/drop off intra China. We can fly from PEK, from outside of China, drop off and pick up, and then we can fly to PVG and and pick up and drop off, except for what we picked up in PEK, then fly to SFS or some other place.
