Right after the Angolan civil war while working out of Luanda, you could always tell you were tracking the localizer by the green tracers fired at you. I got really good at raw data approaches!

Then a crane was brought in the raise the nose of the aircraft.

What had happened was that the crew was receiving a light that the nose gear wasn't operating correctly. Maintenance put the pin/streamer in the nose gear to keep it from retracting while they tested it. Of course, it was a windy evening and apparently the pin wasn't fully in place. It blew out while they were testing the gear!

Link to a photo of the 747 (sorry, I don't know how to just make the photo part of the note and faq's didn't help.)

Actually, the cattle found out why they were being sent to Japan, so one cow sneaked down and pulled the pin.

747: 200 pregnant milk cows from Melbourne Australia to Hanoi. There was a wee bit of an odor even after wrapping the bags in plastic and keeping them upstairs. Always heard pigs were worse but never did one of those.

Obviously not a poker player or haven't read the whole thread. ^^^^

I did a load of cows Australia to Saigon. A little Vietnamese lady comes up to the cockpit and says we have to fly nice, all the cows are pregnant. Yes, pigs are worse.

We did chicks between Hamilton, Ontario and Pocatello ,Id. In a DC3, heavy crewed, O2 equipped for the MEA's over the Rockies, and an extra Janitrol heater in the back to keep our charges toasty, and warm, it went off without a hitch, I will never forget that sunrise over the Front Range at the MEA about 2000 agl over the peaks, we had drift down alternates in every valley, we were way above our single engine ceiling in case we had to cage one. Not really a horror story it went really well.
