MEM catering

Flying the MEM-NRT next week, first time I've been able to pick the catering out of MEM, any suggestions? I was thinking the Corky's BBQ, but not sure how my stomach will like that at 4am. Anyone with goods/bads about the picks from MEM catering list?

Corky's BBQ is always good! I had an f/o get the pot roast last week. She said it was pretty good.

The Corkey's is hit or miss. Most of the time it has alot of fat. It's never as good as the store.

I like the Sweet Chili Salmon and the Jerabek Western Wrap the most.

kc10/c130 04-02-2007 07:40 AM

Sweet Chili Salmon or the Pot Roast. Mmmmmm, Pot Roast, makes my tummy warm (Homer Simpson).

The Jerabek Western Wrap huh. I'll have to give it a try.

Busboy 04-02-2007 08:32 AM

I think you should just stick with the snack-paks. Is that on your menu?

KnightFlyer 04-02-2007 10:12 AM

I like the green box on the way to ATL!

Albief15 04-02-2007 10:15 AM

Or B'ham, BFM, or BNA....

Long cruise flight is for junior guys...

Magenta Line 04-02-2007 01:18 PM

Dude! Yo need to go "whole hog!" On MEM-NRT, you get 2 meals...... order double Corky's!

The Corky's isn't really Corky's but if you like grease and a lot of if it, it's good. I just got the club and it was OK.

Good luck, the food out of NRT will be much better than MEM if you choose wisely Grasshopper!

JC Dude 04-02-2007 03:39 PM

I second the Sweet Chili Salmon. Most meals have the best chocolate cake you'll find in the system!!

vagabond 04-02-2007 04:02 PM

Guys, stop! All this talk about bbq is making me want to move to MEM. ;) We have few really good bbq here, just have to "subsist" on salmon, halibut, scallops, mussels, oysters. :p Life is so tough.

I take it that you've never been to Memphis.

TonyC 04-02-2007 04:06 PM

To be honest, Corky's isn't "really good" barbeque, either. It's average at best, by Memphis standards. They've just got a good marketing plan.

(Of course, average Memphis BBQ is better than anything anywhere else, but that's another thread. ;) )

Bozo's is where it's at. :)

vagabond 04-02-2007 04:13 PM

No, I have never been to Memphis, but if the streets are lined with the likes of Corky's and Bozo's, I might be convinced to visit. Heck, we bought a house in TX because ToiletDuck suggested I eat at the Whataburger. :)

MEM BBQ is overated in my opinion. I prefer Kansas City or Texas style BBQ personally.

That's your opinion.......Memphis BBQ is the best bar none!!

Cozy Corner has the best ribs you'll ever sink your teeth into. Payne's is the best sandwich for lunch. Both holes in the wall but both very, very tasty............:D

I put Corky's behind Neely's Interstate, Germantown Commissary, Rendezvous, and Central BBQ (in that order). Bozo's is on the list to try next chance I get!

I agree.......Corky's falls behind those guys. Although, it is still head and shoulders above BBQ outside of Memphis.

Just so happens, on the Travel Channel a while ago they were voting on best BBQ regions. Unfortunately, Carolina came in last behind MEM, KC, and Texas. I've had BBQ all over the Carolinas and it is hit and miss with more misses for me unfortunately..............

captjns 04-02-2007 08:53 PM

Texas man... yep Texas. That's where the Bar B Q gods alit on earth. To be precise... Brian's Bar B Q in Freeport Texas.

More nostalgic for me than anything. I was introduced to BBQ with cole slaw growing up in Va Bch - Doughties, out of a tub, at a snack bar that I worked at a HS sophomore!

Well, if you're into beef, yeah. But if you want pork, come to Memphis.

Brad's is good, but as long as you're in Bartlett, you might as well have Moma's.

;)

6301 Stage Rd., across the street from the bowling alley. They have an excellent breakfast, too.

Corky's is for tourists............the best in MEM is the BBQ Shop off of Madison. Good hot bbq sauce too, it has a smooth burn to it.

But who can resist the banana pudding at the G'town Commissary?

So if you had to explain to someone in SYD about Corky's you'd say Corky's=Fosters and BBQ Shop=VB? ;)

Jethro speaks the truth

What about Central BBQ in Midtown. I like it better than the ... more famous stuff. We are close to the Frat house but closer to Cooper/Young and Central is the way to go. Or forget BBQ and try the Soul Fish Cafe on Cooper. Best food in town.

A300jetflyer 04-03-2007 06:52 AM

I certainly agree that Corky's is far from the being the best BBQ in Mempho. I would add Brad's to that list also, but IMHO the BEST is at a small dive on N. Parkway Ave near St. Jude's Hospital and a housing project. It is called Cozy Corner. Only open for lunch during the week. Cash only. Ok area during the day, but they have lock the cooks in at night to protect them.

Central BBQ gets my vote for shoulder, followed by tops and colemans.
Rendezvous is the best ribs, followed by Central BBQ.

PS, born and raised in Memphis on BBQ (and have had the heart attack to prove it).
