Just a wild assumption on my part, but the one I talked to was flying that specific tail at Emirates, knew all the quirks, the software, etc. He may even of been in the training department over there. I would think the company wanted some one that was intimately familiar with that tail because they wanted the least amount of hiccups getting it on the certificate and also getting ETOPS on board. Not to mention all the stuff they've been doing in YIP, like getting all the flight followers to get their dispatch licenses, new buildings, a corporate restructuring, etc. Seems almost like a no brainer to take onboard a few of their highly experienced CA's to help the process along for 270 days.

Little off topic, but just want to correct what seem to be a couple common misconceptions. All current and future flight followers have FAA dispatch certificates upon hire, and either have prior part 121 dispatch experience or were internal hires. There is no practical difference between K4 flight followers and other 121 dispatchers, other than the responsibility for (not to be confused with the exercise of) operational control and minor regulatory differences in alternate and fuel requirements. If company were to begin operating under flag rules tomorrow, relatively minimal CBT/classroom training would be all that is necessary. Dispatch vs. flight following essentially comes down to the responsibility for operational control (DO at a supplemental vs dispatcher at a domestic/flag). Flight following still exercises operational control on a day to day basis.

K4 truly is a hidden gem. I was just chatting with a buddy of mine at Southwest who is having a hell of a day and its only his start, still had three more legs for the day. He asked how crappy my day is. I told him it was an easy going painful breakfast here at hotel, after I slept in. Got caught up on emails and bills so the wife doesnt have to worry about them all, chilled at Starbucks for a while, grabbed a quick nap and then the pain of trying to figure out where I was gonna have a nice dinner at. Oh, and the stress of booking some airline tickets for my family to meet me for a few day getaway when I come off rotation.
His response!!! F$-K You
Wishing everyone luck. Its a good place to be with some positive items on the horizon.
