I kind of need to do a little flying just to remember how to do everything. How do you actually PDO bump someone? I know you have to find flights and then email the person on the trip, but after that? Will scheduling allow you to do this while you sit reserve?

Thanx again!

You bump them by going to VIPS, go to Trip Trades section, and One Way PDO bump link.

Call scheds, if you need landings or are new to position (or FedEx) they will let you PDO to maintain/develop proficiency. Pick trips that suit you (DH to/ from your home town, nice layover, etc) than have scheds do it for you. If your sitting RSV and new to the jet, they want you (and you should too) to stay current and not get rusty.

Don's right, to a degree (I think), in that if you're brand new to the seat you're in and are bumping up against the consolidation time limits, Crew Scheduling (CS) might allow you to PDO bump another pilots flight. Pick a good flight pairing, as this is probably the last time you'll be able to PDO bump while you're sitting reserve. Normally CS will not allow you to PDO bump while sitting on reserve, in order for you to develop or maintain proficiency. There's plenty of time to get rusty later.

I've been a FPA/ALPA guy from day one (like 97% of everyone here) and I don't fly disputed pairings, I stay involved with what is going on, and I try to do my job professionally. I also try to show up to work with a smile--which ain't that hard to do...

All that aside--Satan himself can PDO bump me if he wants. If it bothers you that much take the money you "didn't" make and donate it to the PAC, a local charity (there's a host to chose from in/around MEM), or do something nice for someone else.

I tried to buy dinner for STUDENT who ended up bumping off a hellacious 3 leg night death march week long pairing...and she graciously declined. Another guy bumped me for landings...and again...turned down my offer to at least get 'em dinner. I sure some knob would point out I lost the perdiem, but I also got some quality time on the ranch with my kids and my bride. You don't get perdiem there, but I'll do a one for one swap anytime I can make THAT trade.

Life is to short to go around p!ssed off all the time. However--if you are a 727 FO who doesn't want to be bumped--send your potential bumper MY way... I'll treat you to dinner too....

PS--Normy--don't sweat anyone using your probation as a "threat". If you do your job professionally and the way you are trained I cannot imagine your dining habits having any bearing on your future. I often opt out of the dinner push not for political reasons, but with 3 kids at home a quiet hotel is one of the few places I can get caught up on business work and correspondence, etc. Unless you decide to make a huge scene out of it (which diminishes you not only as a pilot but as a gentleman) then I don't think you are expected to suffer through ANY meal you don't want to attend for ANY reason. Be gracious, bow out, and do your thing. Soon--the over 60 guys will find out what being shunned is like. And it won't be political--it will just be for the same reason we avoid nursing homes--the sight of aging, decrepit old fogies drooling kind of spoils your appetite.) ((For the sarcasm/humor impaired--that was a mild poke at Jetjok...who's over 60 and apparently still in good health))

I've got a Paris trip through Indy leaving Monday, and you can have it if you want! PDO of course; the only catch is you have to get to ANC to start it!

Next contract: we need to be able to PDO bump a leg from a guy in the front or end of a trip! That would rock for commuters!

My sponsor told me about these people. I figured they were kind of like the Eastern scabs that I flew with at Express One and Kalitta Air; they did their job and you did yours, you were cordial and friendly the whole time. And if you were smart you kind of went out to dinner without them, pretending to sleep when they called your room.

That's how I plan to deal with Fdx pilots who won't join ALPA.

N!
Your sponsor learned you good!

Non members were grandfathered, and in this case is probably a management pilot.

Reasons to PDO bump - Trip is going somewhere you want to go (usually involving a deadhead) or management pilot needs to fill squares.
Thanks FDXLAG
