So Shopify is a Canadian company? Does this professor know about limits on foreign companies owning US airlines? How does this person have any credibility in this subject if he doesn’t even know these basic ownership laws?

There's a reason this guy is a professor of Marketing, not a professor of Finance or Analytics. Stupid idea, stupid premises. Should never happen. But given that fantasy is the currency of Silicon Valley and its investors, who knows? Maybe it will.

“In the next 24 months, FedEx will either be acquired or lose an additional 40%+ in value. The likely acquirer is Walmart. The gangster move: a merger with Shopify. “

Maybe the law is 49%. The key is operational control.
How can one company merge with another company unless they are owned by a single entity? How does FedEx merge with Walmart and stay a separate companies? I can see Walmart buying FedEx and keeping it a separate company, or not merging them.
