Thumbs up

Well, I’m almost embarrassed to admit to how many AirInc seminars I’ve attended trying to talk the UPS recruiters. What finally did it for me was the women-in-aviation seminar (I’m not a woman). The set up there gave me much more face-to-face time with the HR folks, I also had one of my sponsors show up there with me, I know that helped tremendously too.

Bosco – I think you should go but I don’t want you to get discouraged either. I say that because I’m certain you’ll be told that currently you do not meet the minimums (as you already know) They follow their own guidelines very strictly - just ask my friend who’s been flying MD11s for several years but only has ~800 hours of turbine pic time – they won’t budge on their requirements.

Right now you gotta have transoceanic experience - unless you were offered an interview prior to the requirement and had to postpone your interview – then they’ll honor the interview (friend of a friend got hired this way very recently.)

So yes, I think you should go - this way they'll remember your face whenever the transoceanic requirement is no longer there –and it will happen sooner or later.

Do not be discouraged when they tell you the truth – that right now you aren't even considered. The wait is definitely worth it.

Also, next time go to the WAI conference – much better! Good luck to you!

What was her last job? The name Pam Habenstein sounds familiar. Did she work in the NASC at the counter?

No. I am saying that the process has changed. Recs do not seem to have much weight anymore. Previous posts on the 07 app say that the prescreening is conducted by either an independent company or a random computer. Some guys can't update, some can't apply, some are no longer qualified to apply. Apples and oranges. The application system has changed. No need to be so sensitive.

I heard a captain complain about the “new” application system and the fact letters of recommendations seem to carry less weight nowadays.

He said: in the past, a recommendation could help you to get an interview – once you got one it was up to you to get the job!

Now, he said, it is entirely up to you to get an interview, and once you interview if you’re weak on some things, a letter of recommendations might help you get the job.

Not sure how accurate he is, but I though it was an interesting perspective…

It sure pays to be nice to everyone around this place. Todays van driver could be the one to help your buddy get hired next month!

Pam Lee is kinda new in PR, but still a top end player for selection of who get hired, same as Phil and Sharnika...

Good Luck

Pam interviewed me, along with Buz and Phil. While Pam is fairly new in HR, she's been with Brown for 20 years or so(from what I remember during her intro). Phil or Buz may or may not be there regardless of being on the website list as attending. I stood in line twice in ATL. First time through I spoke with a FO who'd been there less than a year. That's like me taking resumes there 6 months from now...probably ain't gonna do much for you. Second time through I made sure I got to speak with Phil. Probably worth a shot for a chance at a multi-million dollar career.

Ms Lee did my interview w/ Cpt Thompson last month. I would say the other info is current and it's a good investment.
