Jumpseating on Pax Carriers - First Class?
Been j/s on RJs alot, but do the mainline guys let you sit in first if in uniform when there's a seat available or do they make you sit in coach instead? Thanks for any info on this.

Usually if there's a seat in first, depending on the airline, the captain will ask the lead flight attendant to place you there. Personally, I've never asked for a FC seat, when I jumpseated, but on most carriers, with the exception of US Airways (that I know of), I'd usually end up there. Helps to make a nice impression on the captain, but also the flight attendants, since they are the ones who will look after you. While sitting in first, if they had a meal service to do, I'd usually ask them to feed all the other passengers first, then, if they had extra, then I'd love to eat too. Pays to be nice.

Jumped on AA back when I was a lowly Beech FO...EMPTY like 20 pax Fokker. Capt says, take any seat in coach but it came across like a smack down...I always gave js'ers a first class seat if one was open.(CRJ 700).

I can't even remember the last time in the past five yrs. that I was offered a FC seat. And when it did happen, it seems it was the no. 1 FA that gave it to me...although I remember yrs. ago, Reno Air used to put everyone in FC that jumpseated on them....aaahhh the good ol' days...

I can honestly say that I sit in FC 90% of the time when there are seats open. Board last and when you get on obviously introduce yourself to the lead FA, and just pretend like you were never assigned a seat and ask, is it alright if I just grab an open seat? It works great every time! Of course I am always loaded with the chocolate candies and goodies which helps. I have only had one instance where the gate agent assigned me first class, mostly the FA's.
