New FedEx LOA
#231
I don't know anything about the ease of traveling in Hong Kong, but my recent trips to HKG and transport to SZX have involved considerable time. Today, 1 July, our trip took over 2 hours, with lines backed up for customs several hundred meters. I'd guess we were in line for 45 minutes. So I would hope that with a HKG domicile, pilots would be "on the clock" from the moment the transportation leaves whatever pickup point is selected. I can't imagine having a 2-3 hour transport followed by a 11 hour duty day (scheduled) and then another 2-3 hour transport back.
Also, I would hope that the union would make sure that HKG could not be filled by inverse assignment. There are just too many variables (family, cost, etc.) to force a junior pilot into taking a remote domicile like HKG.
Does anyone know if our current contract or the LOA prevents the company from inversing into the assignment?

To my knowledge no one has publicly said I am moving because of this great LOA.

Tax equalization subsidies:
Junior guy $0 to a couple of grand.
Senior guy $40K to infinity.
When the MEC comes out and says there is lots of hidden money in this LOA, don’t be surprised who is going to get it.

Lag - this is a bad deal for senior guys too! if you were senior, you could make out much better in any of the other bases as a wb capt.!
Do you see senior guys backing this LOA? besides, that "to infinity" is a bit absurd don't you think?

Yes inifinity was absurd, but I don't have a top number to put there, I'll take yours if you have one.
I agree that it is a bad deal for the senior guys, I just think it is worse for the junior guys. The big selling point on this LOA is Tax Equaliztion isn't it? So in essence the junior guys (< 3years on campus) get almost no money out of this deal.
Not trying to start a rift just making the point this deal really sucks if you are junior. ( I know we all hope to be senior some day).

The SFS rep had to travel home from MEM to Asia after the meeting. After he gets home, he has said that he will send his minority opinion in. No black helicopters there.

Please vote no
As another new guy that can't vote yet, I make the same plea that Purple Nugget made. I actually considered the CDG base, this makes it a non-starter. Please vote no on this thing for the junior guys who can't vote.

This is copied from the MEC Message Line of 27 Jun 2007:
"Excluding the tax equalization benefit, the additional monies in the LOA are valued at approximately $40,000 per year."
$2700 X 12 = $32,400 $40,000 - $32,400 = $7,600
$7,600 remains for seed money, shipping to and from the domicile, airline tickets, and a possible $5,000 ($104.17/month for 48 months) if you remain for 4 years.
Absolutely none of this will wind up in your pocket.
