Ok. But, you do understand that there will be FedEx pilots that will be committed to living there for two years, right? And, they will be provided with either a full move under section 6 of our the contract (no housing allowance), or an "enhanced" option of $2700 a month for housing and a 500lbs shipment to HKG. It's like say, "Ok guys, we're opening a New York base and you'll have to live within 100nm of base. We'll only give you enough money to live in South Bronx. Oh yeah, you can bring your family, but we won't pay for the schools? What's that? No, public schools aren't available."
The one incredible thing that stares us in the face about this LOA is that it's terribly anti-family!
Anyway, if you were thinking about bidding it, what would you do? Where would you live? Are you married? Kids? House? Two cars and a dog?

I think this LOA will be voted down. It was just a quick offer to see if we'd take it, where the pilot group stands, management reads this stuff.
The company will then put out a bid to see who wants to go overseas. I think more current FedEx pilots will go overseas than people on this board seem to think (due to the general uneducated pilot group on current topic). Then turn to the poolies to fill the remaining slots...just like the ANC purple nugget program. I think the remaining slots will EASILY be filled by poolies/newhires. Couple years overseas for a multi-million dollar career, are you kidding me, OF COURSE!
The company is growing, acft are on order, and the target is asia and europe...they can't wait around too long, it's about money, and everyday we don't pick up freight, they lose money!

You are inventing stuff out of thin air.

With respect (really), you can commute to EWR. When you can commute you don't have to buy a house there and put your kids in the private schools. Ask the JetBlue dudes.

Just left HKG with a 40 hour L/O and went looking over near Stanley (other side of the island) and an apartment in downtown Manhattan would be a deal compared to what I saw.
Honestly, I just don't see how anyone's going to afford the same quality of living there as compared to hear in the US, on double the LOA offer.

Just answering his hypothetical scenario. Having been at an airline with a JFK base, I know all about it.
