Hope every one that flies international. Would be embarrassing to fly in some countries in South America (let alone Africa) and not know how to do it.

ACMI carriers, understandably, may not be AQP and still operate under the traditional system of 6mth check (PC/LOFT). There is a steep cost to transfer and the ROI is several years out (although it is there..). Safety and training wise, that's a different discussion with each system having pros/cons. In todays environment of rapid upgrades it is very understandable to check pilots proficiencies of all aspects and operations of the FMC. An ATP type rated pilot should be able to perform all functions of the unit without too much difficulty, even the less utilized ones. In my generation it was called studying before your check-ride.

Several, including my present and the last few. It's not uncommon at all to be directed to intercept an airway, radial, or course; it makes sense to include it on a checkride.

Just in the US, places like LIT, OMA and such will give you a heading to intercept an airway every single time when departing into a certain direction.

In generalities - Intercepting a radial/course: Know how to do it, and you will never have to do it. Don't know how to do it and it will be issued to you at the most inopportune time.

This holds for lots of things.
