Age 60 survey says 'We don't want it'.
MEC says 'We know better'. The pathetic excuse was 'It's inevitable and we want a seat at the table.' As Dr Evil says 'Riiiiiiggggghhhtttttt.....'
MEC supports piece o' crap LOA. The pathetic excuses for housing, STV and education benefits for children are:
'You pay for housing here anyway'
'It probably won't happen'
'You have them in private school here' or 'Home school them'
They don't represent me and haven't for some time. Would a mass recall petition have traction? If this forum would support it (all except TonyC), I'll start the ball rolling...

The Alpa constitution has a set method for recall. An in-writing request to issue recall ballots(e-mail is in-writing) to your LEC chairman as an agenda item for the LEC's next meeting. Go to the meeting (you can only bring three proxies) and if the majority of pilots at the meeting plus the proxies vote for recall ballots they are sent. Then it's up to the pilots in that LEC. To recall the officers, it can only come from the MEC reps. A motion and a vote.
It's hard but the process is in work for LEC 26.

Even better, after we vote down the LOA, who wants to bet that the MEC decides to begin polling us about how we "really" feel about the LOA. Even if we vote it down it's still going to happen, probably with the same LOA, our vote means ****. It's just a way for the MEC to cover their ass from their age 60 PR nightmare. "Well, we let you guys vote this time and we still couldn't do anything." Maybe they'll start polling about the LOA with some carefully construed bull**** questions written by lawyers, come back and say that we actually wanted the LOA according to the polls, even though we initially voted it down.
Poll Question # 1:
"If we can't change the LOA, do you support the MEC having a say in the implementation of the LOA?"
Not again!!
Looking forward to our mini ANC road show tomorrow, stop by the Snow Goose and bring your best hip waders.

The problem is, even if everyone in this union wants a new chairman it will only happen if the MEC votes him out. WE have NO say unless we replace the MEC reps with people intent on changing the leadership.

I don't know how we get out of this mess. It sure looks to my young, untrained eye that we are now the friend getting ignored in the group of 3. We have an MEC and we have corporate management, they seem to get along real well. Unfortunately we, as the majority pilot group, don't really fit in with either.

Very good point. This is not all DW's fault as evidenced by an 11-1 vote. However, shooting a few of them in the courtyard (figuratively speaking, of course) would deliver a pretty emphatic warning for them to stop rolling over and letting the company scritch their collective bellies....

I think a recall is the way to go. This union needs to start working like it's supposed to. The pilots tell their LEC's and reps what they want, the MEC reflects what the pilot group wants and DIRECTS the officers to make it happen. This union seems to be working from the top down. What the chairman thinks is good, gets the stamp of approval from the "head nodding" MEC figures (like on the dash of your car) and pushed down our throats. The "we know better" attitude has to be stopped. Scope payments, age 65, LOA.....when will it stop.

I'm pretty sure LEC 22 (Blocks 2, 5 & 7) has several openings that will be voted on in September, which makes things a WHOLE lot easier than a recall (at least at the lower levels). This would definitely be a good place to get the "foot in the door" so to speak.

Let's work on the LOA, then hold this thought. We'll get back to it later this summer or early this fall.
Having investigated the recall, the easiest way to make this happen is replace your block rep. Then THEY can decide who to put in the chair, vice chair, comm positions etc. DW has a posse. You gotta take out 5-6 reps to get him gone. I support new blood on the MEC, but TonyC has verbally supported DW in the past. I don't expect him to be a revolutionary.
Take notes on your block rep. Are you happy? If not--find someone to run if the vacancy is open soon. If there isn't a vacancy soon--THEN recall that rep. The process for that can be discussed at length...but probably best served AFTER the LOA vote.
My request? Give Tony (block 5) a pass for now. Ditto Jack Anzur. (block 1). Read block 8's latest letter and see what you think. Read block 7's letter (oops...when was it.....last fall?) Read the Instructor's response on the ALPA boards and decide if you think he is in touch with your ideas on the STV process.
Start making lists. WHO should go? Who isn't fighting for you? Who do you think would be a better replacement? Then calmly write the stuff down, and share it. Its YOUR union. You can make it more responsive by getting involved and doing what Herkdriver suggested. If you want a new Chairman, vice chair, etc the best way will be to bring in a new crop of block reps. Considering the angst I've seen on these boards over this LOA and the age 60 stuff I don't think that would be that tough. What concerns me more than the signature on these documents, however, are the tone of some of the responses I've seen posted and published, and the "take it or leave it @sshole" type approach initially taken by BC and last Monday's meeting. I'll say it again--if honest feedback from the people you serve chaps you so much, then perhaps its time to slide back to the line and give someone else a fresh chance. I know our team has done a fantastic job for us in the past, but sometimes a bit of turnover is good for both the individual and the organization as a whole.
