Default Central Air Southwest SIC

Looking for information regarding Central Air Southwest SIC program. Mainly curious about hiring minimums? Is it still pay to play? How competitive is it to get a job with them?

I met one of their pilots while working the line at 2 in the morning. He told me horror stories about flying down to minimums, dodging tornadoes, and getting pelted by hail. Unfortunately, his attempts to scare me didn’t work and now I’m going down a rabbit hole trying to find more information about the company. At the time, I didn’t know about the SIC program or I would’ve asked him.

I’d love to hear from any current or past CASW pilots! Feel free to reply or PM!

Please tell us you are not considering a pay to play operator?

With the pay issue aside, consider the amount of risk you take on with doing 135 small freight. A lot of the rumors are true about it, it’s like the Wild West compared to the 121 world. If your goal is 121, I’d consider doing CFI work until you hit the required minimums for regionals. Maybe look into some other jobs for 135 flying if you have any good leads with pilots at places. But I’d avoid CASW. I’ve heard negative things about a lot of those small operators especially the ones that do UPS bottom feed. The FedEx feeders are a little bit better I’ve heard, in terms of not pilot pushing.

I'm shocked they are still around, kudos to Andy for keeping it going. I figured it would have died off with all the other check haulers from back in the day.

A lot of experience to be learned flying the 135 night freight. The risk is higher because the pilot demands are higher. I would stay away from pay to play. I had no idea a Aerocommander required a SIC.

I totally agree, I would never go to a place that would force me to push my limits or fly unsafe equipment. My goal is to get CFI(I) and MEI and instruct for a while. Eventually, I’d like to diversify my experience and check out the 135 world before going 121. Thanks for your input!
