Thanks Haywood,
Yes I still need to speak with my sponsor to get a better understanding of the options for those taking an FDA.

Please correct me if I'm wrong... there are two options right?

Option 1)
To take the LOA FDA package, with an additional $2700 for expenses (regardless of seat or seniority) and a three year commitment. Then the pilot can bid back to another domicile, once there is a bid, and a vacancy, after the three years.

Option 2)
To move under the CBA's terms (previous to LOA) without the $2700, but with no long-term commitment. One can move more weight of household goods also?

Option 3)
Is there one?

Maybe I should try a new thread for these questions. As always, your input is appreciated.

Actually, I think you have it backwards. The lightweight move with $2700 housing money is for 2 years. The heavyweight move (current CBA) with no housing money is for 3 years. All FDA pilots will have at least a 2 yr commitment.

Will the French allow our crewmembers to stay 3 years at a time? What about Hong Kong?

Actually, if a new hire just wants to get their foot in the door and wants out of the FDA badly, they can bid out on the first bid in which they can hold something else. They just have to be willing to pay back the seed money.

10k to get out of a bigtime $$$-losing situation isn't really that bad of a deal. If they were to completely take leave of their senses and elect option #1, then the payback is pro-rated.

It is still in Section 6 CBA and the LOA says Section 6 packages are still a player.

Agreed, if it ain't for you but gets your foot in the door.. Pay the penalty and bid back.. Ain't 10K (non-GI Bill) the going rate for those Southwest guys to get onboard???

The problem with that logic, take it and get in the door, if we close a two year bid cycle...you are stuck until you can bid out. Now if the bid happens six months or two years later, well you obviously know the bean counters have full control over that.

I would say if you get offered a job at the FDA, you would need to look at all of the options, move packages, how long are you stuck, and can I feed myself and family on newhire pay in CDG or HKG.

Hopefully after the 10 excess bid closes we will find out when the next bid is coming and when the FDA's start taking folks in. Your guess is as good as mine, I'm banking on when the next SIBA cycle ends, there may be some movement, but that's crew bus talk.

I was basing my opinion on the fact that every FDA pilot has to sign the FDA Agreement Letter. Section 4 of the letter reads:

4.
I understand and agree that the CDG FDA and/or the HKG FDA shall be a temporary assignment expected to last at least two (2) years. At the conclusion of this assignment, I will be able to exercise my rights under the collective bargaining agreement between ALPA and Federal Express to be returned or reassigned to another base or domicile within the Federal Express flight operations system.

Just my opinion, but it appears that 2 yrs is a min, even for a new hire.
