How many of the 42 DC-10 S/Os that were excessed to the back of the 27 will retire rather than "protect essential"? Just thinking out loud.

Good question. At least one is/was an over 60 flex in the Boeing. If still a Flex, all that changes is he now gets 27 SO pay instead of 10 SO pay.

Well...I'd protect essential if I thought I'd get a shot back at my wide body captain job--or at least got passover pay for it. Some of these guys will be doing Oakland or Indy standbys or flying the day trips to BIL or DSM.

I think expecting many of them to tear up their lottery tickets and quit now is unlikely. Again--just thinking out loud.

By the way...DP and a few others do some special projects for the company. I have no idea if they get paid line pay or get some extra pay, but some of them may fall under "tech pilot" programs.

Why on earth would these guys go to another back seat training cycle on the hope that they will someday be allowed to come back to the left seat. Is it me or doesn't seem likely that the company will have a huge bid when they get wind of the bill passing....they will come up with a 3 year training cycle...stick the over 60 guys in the back.because they are not allowed to bid to captain...and all they have to do is continue to update the training letter every few months to fill the actual need of the company. They change it all of the time now, what would stop them from doing it that way in the future. They save all of the additional training costs of the old guys, avoid overmanned seats by not letting the old guys come back, and now even in the worst case after it's all done they may have to pay passover to a couple of guys for a year or two. I don't see anything in the contract that would prevent them from doing this.....I'm I missing something?

Then the old dudes can file a grievance and the MEC can settle for a buck fifty-one.
