At least I answered the question.;)

Shirking your responsiblity to 9 chillen'? Or a dog fighting ring? If someone gave me an ultimatum and I had to do one or the other, I'd start a dog ring every time!

I think the more commonly used phrase these days is "deadbeat dad."

I thought that phrase pertains to those who don't pay any support. Sounds to me like he generally has made support, and when he fell behind on payments, took out a loan to ensure payment. Also sounds to me like the court is setting it up so there will be a trust for his kids since he's not a thrifty lot.
So, if that's true, he's just a guy who has 9 kids with 9 different women. Sounds a little like a Morman or a Muslim to me....well, not exactly...but I don't think he can even qualify for the "deadbeat" label. Although, I can think of some other handy callsigns for the guy.

Starting a dogfighting ring IS shirking your responsibility to your kids. Now that Henry's offspring have no dad to raise them, they'll likely turn other "role models" in the neighborhood, who more than likely are gangsters, drug dealers, and other unsavory characters.

Maybe genetics will give some of his kids a chance to be pro athletes, where they, too, can earn millions, father illegitimate kids, start dogfighting ops, and then claim they had no male role model growing up to show 'em right. Well-meaning white liberals with then explain away their behavior, start whining about ending some "cycle," and then come up with more ways to spend the tax dollars of other Americans to help out the "disadvantaged." Sound about right?

Not exactly? Not even close. I'm no fan of the LDS, but fathering lots of kids out of wedlock (spare me the polygamy jokes) doesn't seem to be a widespread trend in Utah.

Yes, "deadbeat dad" generally refers to sperm donors who fail to pay court-ordered child support. I think it's a shame they use the word "dad" in the label, because it gives dads a bad name.

Henry is obviously not a dad, just an irresponsible, immoral superathlete -- you know, the kind we all idolize. And even though he was raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars, he somehow couldn't manage to keep up with payments to the tune of nearly ten thousand dollars. He got a loan from the Tennessee Titans to get caught up. He still only pays child support to seven of the nine. I think the word deadbeat still fits.

What a waste.

Just a quick question, and something to think about. Who is worse, Mike Vick or Travis Henry? And Why? :(

Did not know we had to choose? Both have issues. One regards to responsibility of fathering a child and one of the humanity of being a decent citizen. By the way, grew up a huge VOL fan also. Still remember Travis's senior year when he went down hard with what appeared to be a neck injury and his mom ran on the field. Coach Fulmer had his arm around his mom as they carted Travis off. As a VOL, I always liked Travis's heart (as a football player). Never backed down from competition with Jamal. In fact, always thought he was a better VOL, than Jamal. Sad to hear. I had better hopes for him and Leonard as NFL alumni.

Anyway, we can make this a huge forum about how athletes in college are treated "above the law" and how this contirbutes to transgressions later in life. Would be a huge forum.
