Default CASS verses Home Basing

If you had to choose between the two, which would you opt for?

Also, add a word or two about why you would choose one or the other!

Don't want rants and raves, just honest opines!

Depends. If you're asking about work commutes only, home basing because your guaranteed a seat to work. For getting around otherwise, CASS.

What is an opine anyway?

All kidding aside. If I had to chose it would definitely be home basing. CASS would be nice for those that move about after work.

Home basing without a doubt. Jumpseating to work can be a real pain. Of course there are carriers that have both.

All other things being equal, if I had to choose: Home basing, no question.

Home basing, no question.

We have CASS at WOA now but the pilots are footing 1/2 the bill. For the guys here that use it I am sure it is worth it.

Cheers,
WG

Home basing. There is nothing like having a guaranteed seat to work all the time. If my flight cancels, I call scheduling and they take care of it. CASS is great for getting around on your own time, but I'd rather have home basing.

Per just about EVERY airline's, and ALPA's Jumpseat policy, using the JS privilege to get back and forth to work is considered "getting around on your own time". Where just about any company that has home basing considers the positioning from home to the aircraft and back home again is considered "work time".

To answer the guys question, it's a bit of an apple's to oranges comparison. Most companies that have home basing have much different utilization needs out of crews and for the most part have them work most of their days at one time. Even at someplace like NetJets the guy is only being positioned twice in a 28 day period. Even companies that don't technically have home basing will position you or have a "bank" system to use for getting yourself to work and back.

In a perfect world, I'd be home based AND have CASS.

Home based. Too many years of commuting and crash pads makes one appreciate the non-stress of home based travel.
