More Info on CDG/HKG after the fact
If you didn't bother to READ the LOA:
With the large bid looming and the prospect of living in Hong Kong or Paris, Block 8 will be a group on the move. Eventually, the 727 will begin its drawdown in earnest, which, by the way, is why it was so important to get the excess bid on the DC-10 right. The DC-10s excess bid will be the template for the 727’s eventual departure.
Regarding this next bid, I may have passed on some bad information regarding returns to the United States (MEM, LAX, ANC) after your “minimum” two-year stint in Paris or Hong Kong. Upon completion of the two years, a new bid would have to exist for you to have the opportunity to return (you can’t just decide your time is up and return to Memphis). This, of course, may or may not be a problem depending upon your druthers. But this bidding reality needs to be part of your planning. No one can say with great certainty how often new bids will come about, but at the very least, the company will have to address the approximately 200 yearly pilot retirements and long-term disabilities. Mix in the very slow transition of the 727 to two-crewmember cockpits and I think it is safe to say some type of yearly bid process is possible, and the chances of being stuck in Paris or Hong Kong for an extended period of time are unlikely.
If there is a bid posting, you can also bid back to the United States early (inside of two years), but you would lose the $10,000 seed money and monies for storage.
Hopefully, the company will soon have more information on the nuts and bolts of Paris and Hong Kong. (vice knowing the info ahead of time)
In general, Paris line construction is expected to be three to four days on and then a couple of days off, and repeat. Hong Kong will likely be oriented (pun intended) toward longer trips. The company may or may not put out sample bid packs prior to this bid (although we have asked many times). Regardless, I would be hesitant to put much long-term credence in those initial bid pack guesstimates, as the trips are bound to evolve with time.
As they say where I'm from: "You got her!"

?
So if you choose the 2 year deal, and end up being stuck for another year or more potentially, do you get the additional moving incentives based on the 3 or 4 year deal? It seams like you should get the money for the time you end up spending there not just the package you choose if you are stuck there longer than you agreed to in the first place. I bet the company will say you chose the 2 year deal so that's all you get, sorry about keeping you here for 3 years and a couple months.
Just a thought.

So what you do is bid back in the first bid that comes out after you get there so you have your seat waiting for you when your two year commitment is up.
Who wrote that email? If that was one of the block reps putting out such dismally researched and trusting info I think I will barf.
Too late, already threw up.

Yeah, no sh i it.
Apparently, they don't want anyone in Europe to have the ability to actally travel anywhere on their days off.
If FedEX is going to be so kind as to "give" you 2700 dollars a month, then dammit, you WILL sit in your poorly furnished studio apartment on your two days off!

And don't forget, the Euro just hit an all time high of 1.4 to the dollar, so enjoy the four walls, 'cause you're not going to have enough dinero to enjoy an evening out scaring or scarring, emotionally that is, the locals.
