Keep track of the flight revenue flight numbers. The trip will disappear but track it via the revenue flight #. Then you will see it magically gets assigned to a MGT or MGT wannabe, Flex or LCA., who interestingly blocks his schedule.

For what it's worth, try going to the green screen and looking on the bulletin boards. There are folders called charters--firm and alerts. The alerts are charter opportunities that FedEX can get if they can operate them. The firm list are actually scheduled to happen.

I would like to trade my trips for one of these frozen trips:), but I've noticed they will not be unfrozen until the charter goes to "firm". It looks like scheduling builds these trips in anticipation of a charter happening but, until the charter department says they are definitely going, the trips stay frozen.

Purely an educated guess. I do know one thing--whenever I fly a charter, I rarely finish the pairing exactly as it started.

Bingo on all counts I would say. It has to firm up AND will most likely be a management trip.
Your last line nails it though. Itinerary not exactly as listed. 'nuf said;)

Everyone knows that the MEM guys get ALL the good deals - right? ;)

Case in point......check out the following extra MEM pairings for last month (Sep)

2258 on 3 Sep (HSBY) - MEM - Captain - schedule blocker (hmmmm...)

2323 on 12 Sep (HSBY) - MEM - Captain

(sorry, not smart enough to put in a link to VIPS)

Even as fat as we are on Captains in ANC and virtually NO open time, the company takes one of our standard milk runs ANC-AFW-ANC and turns it into a MEM trip with a DOUBLE DH with "HSBY" on the front/back ends.....give me a break!!

Both new MEM trips pay around 2.5 times the normal CH for the ANC-AFW-ANC trip.

Both have double DH's to the tune of $1700.00 each - plus hotel - plus extra per diem......

I'm probably the only one who noticed this since I LIVE for trips that begin/end with an AFW/DFW DH - but can NEVER get them...

So.......yeah......what IS that fraud, waste, and abuse hotline number again???

Lighten up Francis... :D

I'm not arguing with you or starting a p!ssing contest. I am commenting on ONE SINGLE pairing that was in MEM Open Time and subsequently was moved to ANC Open Time for a loss in efficiency and will cost the company substantially more to man it. Logistically it doesn't make sense. I'm not saying the company hasn't done this in the past and won't do it again in the future. I'm just highlighting the fact that this pairing was moved to ANC for reasons other than cost and we may never know why. If you want to highlight others pairings feel free. :D

Also not arguing. Just a little dig at the MEM boys to point out that the wizardry of scheduling goes both ways.

My only real point was that us line swine will never know the why's and it doesn't pay to waste our time trying to figure out the why's even though a lot of times it is obvious (to us) that the change costs the co. a lot more money.

Although, I will add this......it is kinda hard for the co. to justify the Fuel Sense charade when they seemingly waste thousands of dollars moving trips like these from MEM to ANC or vice versa. Hard for the avg Joe line pilot to get onboard with that program when the co. just blows all the "savings" on decisions like this.

Like in the military though.....probably a "different pot of money"

Whatever......

Maybe some lucky line guy will get to fly some of those charters.....we'll see.

Not holding my breath.
