So instead, the company has us trying to "catch" the altitude "just right"...
But being the professional pilots we are, operating in non-distracting, non-fatiguing, completely english-speaking airspace, there won't be any safety issues...

So let me get this straight....What are the Chinese pilots going to do? You're telling me they are going to receive their clearence in meters, then convert it to feet, and fly feet, or will they reconvert back to meters........
Me thinks, we be better off just sticking to meters and be hundred feet off, than trying to "catch" an altitude.

I'm not worried about the procedures...we gotta do what we gotta do...
I just think it adds another performance factor in leveling off...we already have altitude deviations with full automation. Now, we have to manually "catch" an altitude, some of which may be up to 400 feet off, at 300-500 fpm V/S...so like a 1+ minutes of watching and hoping you won't get distracted at the last second to hit the altitude hold button at the appropriate time...
Can we do it? Of course. Will it work most of the time? Of course. But on your 5th two-leg day into PVG after hub turning through Subic, the fatigue factor sets in, you get distracted and now you miss hitting the altitude hold button 150 feet too late...
