Default VAC 48 hr. Buffer Q

First time bidding for vacation. I was wondering what happens to those days either side of your vac. if you don't waive the buffer. Do they get dropped or moved? Also do you get paid for them. Thanks in advance!

The experts will need more info to be able to provide you an accurate answer.

Are we talking R-days, a domestic trip, an international trip (two kinds there- over or under 120 TAFB).

Thanks, just shows how much I know about this vac system.

I have a RSV line and R days touch 3 days of vac.

Thanks again

Black,

You can knock out the equivalent number of R days to the number of vacation days that you have ex. 7 vacation days will remove 7 R days. If you wish to do a vacation extension then use the formula in section 7 to figure out how many days you can extend. If you have 7 R days you will probably be able to extend an additinal 3 days for a total of 10. If you do not waive the 48 hour buffer and they hit R Days then these days will be reconstructed somewhere else in your line. If you are feeling like a lawyer try and read the C.B.A 7.3.a-f. It took me a few years to finally get a thorough understanding of it.

Good Luck

Also, remember for the future that the 48 hour buffer waive is only available for reserve and secondary lines. If you are a lineholder you cannot waive this buffer if you're trying to not go over your bank. In this situation you have to slide.

MD11phlyer,

Technically there is are no buffers if you have vacation and are awarded a "normal" line. The only quasi buffer is if within 48 hours prior to the beginning of your vacation you have a trip in which the last activity is an international duty period then that trip will be dropped (7.E.2.c). No such luck for the domestic guys.

You indeed are the vacation Jedi, JB.

I just figured this one out b/c I had a 73 hour trip that was to be dropped if I didn't slide. I attempted to waive the 48 hour buffer (what I thought was dropping the trip) and it wouldn't allow me to, saying that the buffer is only for reserve and secondary lines. Therefore, I slid it.

Truth is, that 48 hour buffer is the international duty free buffer, not the vacation buffer.

Either way, our Vacation system is top notch and I'm glad I could keep that trip without going massively into vacation debt.

Default Bid Summary

The calendar portion of the bid processing summary is very handy. It shows where your extention days are and where the 48 hr buffer days fall too. It even showed where an intl buffer knocked out 2 days for carry-in conflict.
