He also said the plan is that LCAs would DH over to Europe and do LCs for 2 wks then DH back. Looks more like SIBA than STV, as we've been told the intent was, if you ask me!

I can't see this being legal under the CBA either, in order for the current 727 CA's to be receiving passover they had to bid and hold a widebody seat. Then they are put at the end of the training cycle, until they or the Company decides it is time for them to leave. In the case of the 757, they have to BID it, so in theory, they would be vacating their current widebody award, have to train on the 757 and then re-bid the widebody on another bid to be put back in passover status. The same thing should apply to any current widebody CA that downbids in my opinion.

I think I will run this up the flag pole at ALPA and see if it has been discussed.

Come on, how can you expect the company to fill the FDAs with a crappy LOA if you wont let them make shady side deals.

Not jumping all over anybody (except for pro LOA guys).

Just making light of the practice bid and it's infinite silliness.

Don't think you will find any of those guys(Pro LOA) out here! I want to know if DW or BC are coming out for the annual golf tourney! Bet no road show out here!

It was probably the discussion that went like this:

Company - "Shove this POS LOA down the crewforces throat and we will gaurantee passover pay for the senior guys bidding the 757"

MEC - "Make the 777 pay the same as the 380 and you got a deal"

Just for grins, here's something I'd like to see some info on when the dust clears on this bid:

How many of those HKG FO's were Economics majors?

machz990 10-23-2007 09:17 AM

USA Today and the Wall Street Journal said yesterday that after the G7 meeting the "US dollar is set to plumb new lows against the Euro." It's currently at $1.43 and will continue down. I won't be surprised to see $1.46 or higher. Add your banking fees and you are easily at $1.50. Look at the Canadian Dollar, it is currently more valuable than the US dollar. It wasn't that long ago that $1 US bought $1.50 Canadain. Our dollar has even lost over 10% to the Phillipeno Peso. Now that is bad!! Your $2700 stipend has already lost over $200 per month in exchange rate and we aren't even there yet! And don't forget the landlord will be raising the rent anually also. Don't you love flat rate compensation not tied to the local currency or with a COLA? The 32 percenters had 100% of the knowledge when they voted..........what did the 68% have?

They had the knowledge that the company could have and would have opened these FDAs anyway without an LOA. The further knowledge that 100% of the CAP slots would have been filled and some if not most FO slots would have been filled. (the Practice bid seems to prove this fact)

33 open FO slots in HKG with the junior Capt. a 54xxxx employee number. 9 open FO slots in CDG. This with an LOA. I seem to think that the practice bid indicates otherwise, that these domiciles will not fill even with an LOA. (Disclaimer: Practice bid no indication of reality)

Furthermore, the LOA is more restricitive (read: less advantageous) in many situations depending on your domicile. Example: My Aussie buds were not overly impressed with the $2700 allowance, but assured me that it would be ample considering that I would clean up on taxes in HKG. "Oh contraire" says the tax equalization.

Anyhow we can beat the dead horse, which as you may notice I truly enjoy, but it's not going to change the shortcomings in the LOA. It also won't change the fact that the MEC has created two opposing sides. One one side is management and the MEC and the other side is us: the unrepresented pilot group.

Maybe a MIDOL is more appropriate! Must say I agree. Things must not be too bad when the stuff we cry about gets to such a high warble.....
