I'm just glad that we raised the new hire pay last contract. That extra 4k will help the "Hong Kong Nuggets" get their 3 kids into the school of their choice.

Just kidding.....

For those of us in the pool... could someone please educate us on all these terms and acronyms you fine pilots are using? I'm trying to follow all of this but I am just a bit confused....

Perhaps a new thread "Acronyms and Terms" for poolies.....

I.E. STV, SIBA, ect.....

In all seriousness...I would bid SIBA to HKG for the experience and enjoy trying it...knowing that I'd be gone 2-2.5 weeks and not a month. I know SIBA is an expensive headache at times for the company. However, I'd bust my butt, enjoy the experience, and do all I could to make it work. Then I'd come HOME and feed the horses and bring the girls their Chinese trinkets and thank God that I worked at a company as great as FDX. (Really).

What is the difference in that and "sucking up" two more weeks at perdiem for the team? The idea of non-voluntarily getting sent away just creates a very negative knee jerk emotional response in me, and judging by the hub meetings and subsequent message board stuff it does in a lot of other people too. I lived that life for Uncle Sam...proudly. However, doing it for the shareholders just makes me resentful.

In fact--I think that if you did SIBA Hong Kong until it was filled it WOULD go senior, and our MEC would be correct. As others have said...we'll see what develops..

Post a definitive list under a separate thread and I'm pretty sure guys will try to answer them for you....OR...a quick call to your sponsor may be more efficient.

Even if you get paid for the 2 days of travel each way, you still are working 3-6 days to offset the cost of airline tickets for the wife. This is still a big if because, despite questions on the subject, we still don't know if those 4 days will be paid or per diem only."

Gunter, that is right on! Also, there's no way that the vast majority of guy's wives will be able to drop everything in their lives (kids, jobs, other obligations) and run over to HKG or CDG for 30-35 days. And, most of the wives wouldn't be too thrilled with sitting in the hotel in HKG for two weeks by themselves, while you're flying hub turns through CAN.

Equating the value of two coach airline tickets to the missing 14-16 days worth of pay is ludicrous. For every day I'm away from my home conducting business for Fedex, I expect to be compensated 6 hrs of pay- not $60-70 worth of per diem.

No matter how you cut it, STV is a gigantic screw job for the crew force.

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Personally, I don't think the Q+A is as binding as the signed LOA. But, I sure like the way the question is answered.

And, when you read the signed LOA on P.F.C, the one month invol language is embedded into the appropriate paragraph. Contrary to rumor, it is not merely a promise via FCIF.

A: Inversing pilots permanently into an FDA is not allowed by the CBA. If the vacancies are not bid by crewmembers on the property, then new hires would be the only option available, short of canceling the FDA. Agreed, do you think the company will stick to the 18 month STV window per the Q&A or the 24 month window per the LOA?

What will be the length of theSTV periods and will they be run like the current SIBA flying in Europe ?
Per the FDA LOA, voluntary STV assignments can be up to 3 months; involuntary STV assignments are limited to one month and no more often than once every 6 bid periods. An STV can only operate 18 months per the CBA.
