Mil guys seem to get on with 3-4K Civ guys are about 7-10K. The classes recently seem to be a 50/50 split... or at least very close.. can't say from years past.
As for your time line... depends on how much and what you fly..

However, the Capts I've flown with in ANC and the F/Os and IROs senior to me are almost all military. In the airline circles I had heard that from the late 90s to most recently, UPS preferred to stay away from furloughed legacy pilots because of their propensity to return to their legacy carrier. Thus, many hiring classes during that time frame included high percentages of military pilots.

The joke on campus that I've heard: UPS stands for:

Usaf
Pilot
Services

Not a cut on the fine mil. folks, just an observation.

That's a good move, always easier to find work when you're employed.

Leaving the ACMI was an easy choice.

Took my first flying lesson Feb 19, 1987. Went to work for Jetstream Internation in Jan 88 flying a BAE3100 and was hired here at UPS on Feb 19, 1990. It was a real quick way to a major. Keep in mind that in 1990 UPS was definetly not everyone's first choice. More likely their last.

I feel I am the luckiest fellow on earth. Best of luck.

From what I understand UPS wanted/needed new-hires with alot of International experience to fill up the ANC domicile. My guess is the Mil guys fit the bill better than most civ guys as far as International experience. What do you think?

I had three buddies get on with times in the 5000-5500 (civilian) hour range earlier this year. One had MD11 time and the other two were from the regionals only but this all was before that window with the "transoceanic" requirement.
