Flifast,

I was just curious if you have noticed a difference as far as the mil guys versus the civilian guys in the International arena. I'm a DC-8 guy and will try to avoid International flying like the plague! therefore I don't have a clue if UPS's hiring practices are working up there in ANC or the Z/MD-11 world, I just thought you may have your own opinions or thoughts on whether the mil guys are bringing more or less to the table.
Take Care,
Vito

I started UPT in May 1998 with no previous flying experience other than 50 hours and a PPL. I started at UPS in the spring of 2005. In between I flew a lot of KC-135 sorties all around the world. BT told me that what made my resume stand out was the 128 combat sorties. He was an AF heavy pilot and he likened my experience in Iraq to his in Vietnam. And no I am neither a minority nor a chick.

So technically since you are not a chick you ARE a minority, aren't you?

Come on guys, we all know there are differences between civilian experience and military experience. A civilian guy that has flown the SAME routes is clearly more experienced than a military guy who hasn't. This certainly doesn't make them a better pilot, but it does give them an advantage.

Vito and others,

I don't have an opinion about the fine mil. folks in ANC. I just know the backgrounds of the civi guys because my background is similar to theirs, and "I can re-late".

I take a cooperate-graduate attitude to flying, not so much where someone came from. I observed there are more mil. folks at UPS, specifically in ANC where I am based. Out of 5 months of flying and maybe 60 flights, only 4 were with a civilian-only cockpit. That's an empirical observation, not an opinion.

Does that make the mil guys better suited or vice versa..I'm not gonna touch that stick of dynamite..but I will stick with the thread....so, Vito.what's your background...sorry if you already posted it.

But back to the thread in any event.

So it's favoritism then isn't it? I am not sure what's worse...affirmative action (minority or chick, your words) or favoritism towards people with similar experiences as the HR guy.

Also, I am sure your combat flying is really relevant in the civilian airline world, too. Yeah man, you are over-qualified.

FliFast,

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to start a Mil vs Civilian thread, I just heard that UPS was planning on hiring mostly ex-mil and civilians with alot of over-water experience to fill-up the ANC domicile..just curious if that is indeed what they are doing or are they sending up "green-guys" due to the displacement. Since I don't fly there I was just wondering if they were sticking to the plan? Personally I'm a mil C-17 type...Rumors were flying that C-17 and KC-10 types would be highly desirable on a resume, but I have a few buds in the squadron that haven't heard "jack" from UPS and they have all the quals and more. I was just curious about the situation up there..no ulterior motives behind my questions
