DC8 hits pole
#1
Got this in my Email and want to know more details. Can anyone provide some insight on this incident??? I never heard about it until I got the Email.
"The Captain on this flight was into General Aviation and he flew aerobatics in a Pitts. During this stay at an airport in Denmark, he got in touch with three Danish pilots who were training formation flying in their Chipmunks. And he managed to get a backseat ride from them. After taking off from Billund Airport, bound for Berlin in his DC-8, he decided to make a low-pass over the taxi-way with the chipmunks. Unfortunately he hit a mast [see photo #2] that severely damaged his horizontal stabilizer. He continued to Berlin and landed without problems. Except for a personal one: it was his final flight as a pilot for Evergreen International."

I believe that pilot eventually worked for UPS which he left and later sued for some sort of discrimination (and won a pretty big settlement) and later, he went to DHL Airways where he was DC-8 Chief Pilot for a short while. He is now over 60 and out on IPP since DHL provided no A plan to pad his retirement (like he needs it at this point).
