UPS Quals

Had a co-pilot tell me yesterday that UPS will not interview anyone with no trans-oceanic experience. He said this was explained to him at a job fair by a UPS rep a while back. Any big brown guys/gals out there able to confirm this?

I think they were for a while, but don't know about now. Don't even know if they are interviewing right now.

Trans-oceanic experience was only required during one open window period earlier in the year. The window has since opened and closed a few times since then without the requirement to have such experience. The UPS application window closed for 2007 on November 15th. Hopefully it will open next year and UPS will continue to staff front seat pilots with those under the age of 60.

A friend of mine has an interview next week, and he has zero widebody or transoceanic experience.

That, and the fact that he is a friend of yours don't bode well for his chances :D

I know it was for grins, but I didn't write one a year ago for a friend because he got the interview before he told me. Old school thought: write LOR to help get interview. So he didn't need one or so myself and another friend reasoned. New school thought: If they mention in interview they know you, and no letter..... well, questions asked "Why didn't they write you a letter? Did they know you were interviewing? etc. Friend did not get job (who really knows, but talking with HR (Paige and PD, etc) afterwards, I deduced it was a negative for the two of us not to have written an LOR. Ouch! I felt horrible.

Well, for what it is worth...I had an interview in early November. My qualification included trans-oceanic experience, total time 7,500 inclusive of military and civilian time. I did get the question concerning who I know at UPS...I did not ask everyone to write a letter of recommendation with the thought that one or two was plenty. Now I am questioning that decision. Hopefully I will hear something positive soon.

low and slow: Good Luck

Those I've spoken with about the company's stated position, "No hiring for 2008," are unanimous that it is not possible. We need more help.
