So ALPA was for the LOA (will go way senior), Over 60 Pilots (the train is leaving), and now people are talking about furloughs because we have too many pilots. If they went with the majority of pilots (Age 60), there would be no talk of furloughs, there would be no question of direct hire for the FDA's. I really hope we are able to change our union leadership real soon.

Yeah and if you put your company hat on, it's things like that they make them hungrier for the removal of the no displacement to an FDA clause vs. playing the furlough/recall game. It would be more expensive and balky to excess LA, furlough from the bottom and then recall to an FDA-especially since we aren't likely to be overstaffed forever.

The more I think about it, there better be no way in h*ll the union allows them to change the contract to allow a displacement to an FDA w/out....

- adequate housing allowance for anyone with children
- significantly increased weight allowances similar to military field grade officers
- child education cost @ 100%
- a COLA mechanism
- better family travel benefits
- etc, etc, etc...

Mgt, and our MEC, told us the FDAs under the LOA were NOT designed for everyone. If you don't like the terms simply don't bid it....and sure enough that's why even the very junior in the back of the 727 didn't bid them because it simply wouldn't work for their families.

Come on, if the union agreed to such a thing you'd be basically forcing a pilot to go over their solo to keep his job/seniority.

Wow ---- then the joke would become, "Hey, ya know what's worse then a 30-day non-vol STV to an FDA that these junior guys were whining about?"

Answer: "....a 3-5 year non-vol tour in an FDA?"

Thought I left all of this type of talk behind when I retired from the military.

Very valid points.

Did I miss something here? WHO is talking about furloughing? I haven't heard anything about that. In fact I heard from a mgmt. type that we're only 100 pilots overmanned. Who is spreading this gossip? Many of us have been through a furlough and don't appreciate anyone gossiping about that as being a possibility. Chill out everyone. The sky isn't falling.

If the F word is being used by anyone, it is meant to elicit a certain action or reaction on our part.

Like the story about the possibility of foreign pilots taking our flying...

Or the one about only relatively senior pilots bidding the FDA's....

Anybody know anything about the meeting??

As my screen name says, 2 furloughs! Gee profits are down(key word profits). My former life, they lost over 1 billion before I got laid off the 1st time. So cut the F crap! My son likes Chicken Little.

I emailed my block rep, but still no response...they're obviously very busy figuring out how to sell us on the company's latest "last and final offer." SG
