Default FedEx Meeting with ALPA on Dec 6th?

Based on the latest msg line---any ideas what might happen at the Dec 6th Meeting? I'm guessing the company would rather not put new hires in these FDAs. How about a side letter that makes this LOA one we deserve, as opposed to the best we can do under the circumstances to protect scope (****?) seeing as we had no negotiating power.....

I predict that the side letter from the lengthy and business like negotiations, will be signed and ratified by 10 members of the MEC.

Ohh...And, by the way, the negotiations I refer to, took place between different members of FDX management.

I would not look for any substantial changes other than what we've already seen.

IF they do offer any significant enhancements, then they need to open it up for a re-bid. There are some who would consider Paris or HKG as a captain if there were some improvements.

Fixing this thing---then opening it again only for FO vacancies--negates seniority. And since we all know that is sacrosanct, it should be re-opened.

I would ask that the STV clause be removed as a token of good faith for our union working in such a businesslike manner. I think we owe our folks the ability to NOT be sent to either domicile for 30 days against their will. That would be just one of the improvements that should be implemented if additional side letters are negotiated.

I really don't think the major issue is the recent bid closing. I think the bigger issue is the future bids. With international growth on our short range radar, I believe the FDA's are going to see an increase in crew manning. In fact, it seems to be common knowledge that the MD-10 will be flying out of CAN within a year and a half. If we had the poor showing on this introduction bid, why would we expect anything different on subsequent bids. In fact, once we get the domiciles up and running, I think the we will see the truth behind the promises and the interest in bidding a foreign domicile will actually fall. If they don't fix this LOA now, they are going to be climbing a steep mountain of FDA crewing.

Right on Trap. This was a low ball offer from the company that never should have been voted in. YGBSM----theres NFW most of us can bid this in it's current form. All in the name of scope---****? I'm one of the 32% that said NO to the scope improvement........

Something else that really needs to be considered is the timing of future bids as they relate to contract negotiations. Albie, when you are elected to the council please have them put everything on a calendar so that we are proactive in negotiations rather than reactive. Case in point: contract implementation. We know there will be a modest increase in FDA manning in about 2 years based on CAN growth projections. Based on the horrible shortfall of interested parties in this last FDA bid and the substandard LOA, we should have significant leverage in negotiations because it would seem logical that the company would not like to have a repeat performance.

Leverage won't be as available if they can STV guys 30 days a pop for 2 years.

Why anyone ever agreed to STVs in beyond me. Its bad for the individual, and its bad for our own union. I won't speculate as to why somebody thought someone would benefit from it, but I just don't see it.

WHEN I get elected is pretty presumptious. I've had a lot of nice things said to me in the last month, which I appreciate. I also watched them announce I got 16 whole votes at the nomination meeting. I'm sure Cory has a lot of folks pulling for him and if he wins I hope he does what a lot of us have indicated is important to us--open up the comm channels. But I will believe I can get involved only when the election is over and the votes are tallied. I know a lot of folks are trying to help both Vic and I, but I also imagine that there are a lot of folks working hard either FOR Cory or AGAINST me. I just hope neither of us gets elected with a dinky turnout, but rather everyone gets off their @ss and gets involved. If you don't think it matters much, just look at how guys have felt about things the last two years...
