Passport Renewal Question

I am filling out a passport renewal and I want to request extra pages. I cant find anything on the state department website on how to do it, but I know it can be done. Anyone have any experience with this?

Attach a small note to your app requesting additional pages. If you don't get them that way, stop by a US embassy at their passport office and request them there, should be while you wait.

When I renewed mine ealier this yr, I requested the extra pages but did not get them. I had to drop it off at the Embassy in LUX and it was an all day process to get it done.
