I've always been curious as to the flying schedule cargo airlines have. Can anyone share a typical cargo airline schedule domestic or international. How many days on duty, how many flights, etc. Thanks.

I don't know about other cargo carriers, but at FDX I don't think there is a typical schedule. We have PM out and backs, AM out and backs, night hub turns, day hub turns, long trips and short trips. You can get a long international line MD-11 and be gone for 12-14 on one trip or you can get an out and back 72 / A300 line and be home every night and make 12-15 flights a month.
Some guys want to commute and try to pack everything in a block.
The one thing that's nice is one man's trash is another man's treasure. Of course the more senior you are the better chance you have at getting your treasure, but you can rearrange your schedule (to and extent) to make it better for you. As far as days on duty - somewhat near 14 days for a four week bid month, 19 days for a five week bid month. The reserve lines will have you on more days but you'll fly a lot less, unless you request to first fly.

I fly long-haul freight and we are on duty 17 days a month. Most of these outfits run 16-19 days per month. Typically its 17 days in a row sometimes its 2 seperate blocks. When you'e gone you're gone, no going home on the weekend when you are overseas. Duty days run 8-18 hours sometimes longer, rest periods can be from 12 hours to 3 or 4 days. The one good side is that we can live anywhere and usually the company pays transportation-its not official,but we are trying for it in writing on the next contract.
