Default Vacation Question

Heres my situation:

Training in March 2008. I have vacation scheduled for April which will conflict with my training.

Obviously, I'll be able to reschedule the vacation for later in the year once my vacation gets droped out while in training.

Heres the questions:

1) Can I change my vacation now to Feb. (before training) because there IS open slots available now?

2) Does there have to be open slots later in the year if I take my vacation after training?

3) If question to is yes, what happens to that vacation if there is no open slots?

Thanks.

goo goo g'joob.

1. You may be able to trade for an open slot or with someone else who wants to trade.

2. Yes.

3. You will be paid for it December 31.

Eggman,
I assume you mean ITU training?
If that's the case, sit down on a long layover, and start by looking at the training letter. Take a look at every guy junior to you, going to the same equipment. Look for the nicest 2 or 3 (or just catalogue all elegible VAC's). Once training is done (those guys jr activate) you can piggyback on any of them. My first year as CAP in the bus I ended up with a DEC slot. Of course, it was only that first year. (argh)

Call Brenda Smith and speak with her (Futures Scheduling I think). I think ...

1. I think you can trade now if there are open slots

2. There doesn't have to be open slots, you can get any slot that someone junior to you has (that you would have been able to hold). This can be a great deal. Many people upgrading are relatively senior and almost everybody is junior to them. So ... you might be able to get almost any week including Christmas or Thanksgiving (I lost 2 weeks vacation due to training and got both Christmas and Thanksgiving).

3. You can sell back up to 40% of your total vacation if you want (your choice).

Read CBA 7.E. You can reschedule your slot to the same slot as any one junior to you in your new seat. I don't think the 40% rule is a player if you lose vacation due to training.

Similar question. I had a recurrent training event knock out a 12 day trip next month, although I tried to bid around it. I now basically have a clear month (no pay) except for training mid-month. My vacation starts toward the end of the month.

There are one or two open time trips that I can conflict with my vacation days, but I've never played around with open time vs. vacation time before (always been lucky before) and I can't find anything specific in the contract. Anyone see any flaws in my master plan? I tried to call Brenda several times, but she's apparently out on disability.
