ABX Air--what gives?
#12
Other than a single thread (of 289 posts, mind you), there isn't much discussion in this forum about ABX Air. What gives?
Few companies come close to beating its pay scales, and other than some serious grumblings about being domiciled in Osaka at 1-year FO pay, there don't seem to be many (relatively speaking to other airlines) negative aspects to the company.
Why isn't there more discussion about employment with ABX air? Should it not be considered as one of the "powerhouse" airlines to work for (similar to UPS or FedEx, for example)?
As a side note, even if sent to Osaka--how long would you be required to live there?

How do you spin off ABX. Do you mean drop the contract (ACMI agreement). What poor performance are you speaking of. Last I checked our leader got his Bonus because we met our "performance goals", or are you just trying to stir the pot.........

Not stirring at all. A very good friend of mine is a 10 yr 9 f/o over there and these are just his concerns. I didn't mean "spin-off" ABX and poor performance relates to ASTAR more than you guys. In fact, he says that the major problem is that ASTAR can't deliver the product reliability that you at ABX can, so the logical step would be for DHL to give more express or all of it to you. His other concern was that maybe the Germans just throw their hands up and scream uncle, lick their wounds and dismantle both airlines. I don't think that's likely, but apparently the BIG MAN of DHL Germany is coming to pay you all a visit soon.

Oh,
Thanks for the clarification.
I do agree with the "being concerned" part, we all are. We (ABX) are just another dirt bag ACMI carrier now. DHL so far has not seemed to care about "on time" and recovery of freight. I hope this is just a long learning curve for them. You do know English is their 2nd language and I hope something is being lost in the translation when we tell them that the customer really does want his SH*T by 10 am. I just hope they get the message sooner rather than later.......

Unfortunately, even if/when they do figure it out in the "flat" U.S. domestic market, DHL has never shown any inclination to grow their owned or contracted carriers. Historically, when they need more lift they acquire, sign up or start up a new carrier. I'm not aware of any examples where being aligned with DHL has been any great boon for an airline, aside from basic survival which is certainly worth something. I keep hoping that HQ in Bonn will decide they need the efficiency of a more integrated air network but that day isn't in sight yet.
