Pretty decent place to work. You work up to 16 days per 28 day bid period. While it's possible to work the 16 days straight, you generally work 8 on, 6 off. About half of the flying is domestic flights out of BAX's Toledo hub and the rest of the flying is international (a lot of which is done by the senior folks).

The pay is equal to or better than most 747 supplemental carriers and we are home based. Almost all the crewmembers are a pleasure to fly with and the airplanes are in about as good a condition as you could expect for a forty-ish year old jet.

We are in the process of being sold to Cargo Holdings International concurrently with the sale of BAX to the Deutsche Bahn. I've heard we will continue to operate for BAX under contract. Also, we are in union contract negotiations which seem to have come to a grinding halt in the compensation phase.

Any other questions?

Yes. What does your route system look like now? (What international and domestic cities do you layover in?)

How are the on/off schedules working out these days?
How much credit vs hard time during an average month? How's the day/night mix? Is like a ABX/FDX operation? (I just applied to ATI and I'm in my mid 50's, so schedule and QOL are becoming increasingly important:D).

Fleet plan...767's?, plan on "hold"?, more 8's?...

What's the skinny of the ABX/ASTAR/CHI/ATI/CAC/DHL (did I forget anybody) situation? Who's making out? Who's not?

Home basing is great if it's done right. How's that going? Reasonably effeciently? Decent seats? Not being sent half way around the world every month I hope? Credit for DH/Commercialing?

APC says contract "amendable date unknown". Hardly ever see that. When's it up? How's that going? Pay raises in the cards? Not? Teamsters doing OK by you? Their contracts generally pay well, I've noticed.

I know that's a lot. Thanks in advance! JP

JetPiedmont,

Being brand new to the company (just finished my sim check), I can only address one of your questions with what little I know...the first couple of 767s are on their way and we're scrambling to hire folks to backfill the DC-8 so we can get folks into 767 school. Expect a quick upgrade to the L seat of the 8.

I should know more in a year...maybe.

Hey, Thanks. I sent in an app about two weeks ago. Haven't heard anything yet. How long before they called you for an interview?

Rafiki 03-07-2008 08:12 AM

Jet Piedmont,

It was several months after I sent in the app, but things are accelerated right now. Hopefully, they'll give you a call for the next set of interviews at the end of March. Good luck.

Thank you again! What if I don't have an inside reference?

Rafiki 03-07-2008 08:31 AM

I don't think an inside reference is an issue. They're looking for folks with some > 12,5 turbine/multi PIC. If you have some + the min time, they will probably call you.

Sounds good. Long time ago I flew DC-9's for ABX. Where did you fly the DC-8 previously? (I noticed the rating). JP

You do realize that ABX Holding, which has the same management as ABX Air now owns ATI through its purchase of CHI?

Hi Eric- Yes, I have been trying to understand this unbelievable spider's web that had been woven over ILN and what was once, IMHO, a very smartly run company with a very promising future (I was there 1986-87. Were you?).

I am currently retired from a Legacy at age 53 and am looking to get back into flying for a few more years. ATI seems a tidy enough outfit and so on.

But please share your concerns and any advice you may have, either thru PM or in public. I don't have a very in depth view of all these aquisitions and how they all relate or the motivations behind all the "players". You may spare me some angst.

JP
