We gave it up before. In the 1989-91 timeframe, most of the FedEx European delivery folks became "redundant". I always liked that word. To us Americans...It sounds a lot better than, they were fired, laid off, unemployed or out of work.
Besides, we wouldn't be giving it up, this time. Sounds like we'd be using their ground delivery infrastructure. Might be easier than trying to build our own, all at once. Again.
That's all just a guess, of course. What do I know? What do any of us know?

After working in this system for almost 5 years now, nothing DHL does would surprise me, but this story comes from a reporter, it is not a press release from DP, DHL, or FDX. There was a similar story from a reporter about six months ago, or so, that named UPS. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but I would wait until something official is released by the involved parties, before worrying too much.

I think you'd have to answer the question of who's going to sort it and where to both parties satisfaction, before you can even begin to consider that question.

Not really a player. The purchase of FTL ultimately resulted in NO FTL aircraft remaining in the FedEx system. All were sold, parted out, returned to the leaser, or donated - with the exception of a few 27's that I think rusted to dust on the Indy ramp.

Recent news article said FedEx is involved with a group that owns the bullet train that runs between the U.K., France and Belguim. Plans are to begin freight operations as early as 2009 or 2010. That should take care of a few FDA pilot slots.

D Post considers US unit sale
ByUlf Brychcy in Hamburg
Discussions with Frederick Smith, the chief executive of Fedex, are under way, according to insiders. One possible outcome could involve Fedex taking control of the whole parcel delivery business of Deutsche Post in the US. In return Deutsche Post could assume control of Fedex services in Europe.
Mr Allan is considered the driving force behind the reorganisation plans. He is pushing for the group to end its US express delivery activities, which have generated losses of up to €7bn for Deutsche Post

Why would Fred trade away one of the "Growth" markets, Europe, in return for a "Flat, No Growth" domestic market? That doesn't make any business sense at all. Maybe just "buy out" DHL in the states to absorb their market share does make sense. Like the wise man said, "May you live in interesting times" Great crew bus rumors and entertainment though!
