Default Union Dues.

Just got off the phone with our Union and was not disappointed. I knew I wouldn't get any help and therefore I was not disappointed.

I'm trying to find out how much I paid in dues for the year. The lady from ALPA national said 2006 was posted if I needed the info.... uhhhhhh huh? I'm asking about the dues paid for my accountant so I can get my 2007 taxes finished up. Her answer was "they were waiting on about 20 airlines to tell them how much was paid in".

Excuse me, but doesn't ALPA have an accounting department? They certainly know if I'm in good standing or if I don't pay my dues. What can be so hard about totaling up how much each member has paid and releasing the info?

I put in a call to the MEC Sec/Treas. and got no response... we'll see how tomorrow goes.

I wonder if I didn't pay my dues for a year would they be able to tell me how much I paid then? Aggrivation I don't need from them!

ok.. I'm done...

I ended up using the Dec 31 pay stub. But I agree they should be able to post this by Jan 15th.

Thats interesting. I called in this morning and the gal gave me my dues amount. I never bothered to ask why they were not posted. Its funny when it comes time to pay up they have no problem gettin' there slice. When you want to see how much you paid...well you get the point

I was furloughed from brand X and then recalled. After being recalled we had a few issues being voted on, I tried to vote. I was told I was in bad standing. I called alpa, was told I owed a year of dues, while I was on furlough... I asked the alpa accounting to clarify, "That I owe them back dues for being furloughed". Yes was the answer. I had to dig deeper within the association and they said I was good to go and sorry. Well I missed the vote and well that's how it goes. 10yrs as a dues paying member, never missed a payment.

On another note they know when to adjust dues for your pay raise.

"Thank you sir may I have another"

That's an easy one, since they don't have to do anything! They don't even know or see when a pay raise happens. If the amount you owe is 1.95% X your pay, then that is what it is. The pay can vary from month to month due to various things - hours, pay rate, training, etc. - no adjustment needs to be made to adjust for a pay raise since its a simple percentage!

I did the same, but then I compared my 2006 31 Dec paystub to what ALPA posted on the website for 2006, and the 2 numbers were off by about $100.

I don't get any paper statements from ALPA anymore, not really sure why, must have been some effort to save the rain forests, but I found a list of monthly deductions on the website. As I started to add them up I realized that they only go back to July 2007.

Its Feb 5, I have received every other tax statement. Give me a break!

I've never received a statement from ALPA. I've always used my Dec 31st pay stub. Does anyone have a telephone number for who to call at ALPA?

ok.. update from the MEC S/T WR here's the reply to the question:

FDX is dragging their feet this year. They are supposed to supply the data directly to National each year in January. This year they have been screwing around, trying to insist that they send it to me, then I send it to National. We have squared that away per a phone call the other day that I had with the company, now they have to deliver the goods. In other words, it is the company holding this up as far as reconciling yearly earnings with ALPA for dues purposes.

Another option that you have is to use your December 31st paystub, it will have your dues for the year on there.

But our January 15 paycheck has "clean up" pay from the December bid month. I assume dues are based on what you earned in that calendar year, not when it was paid to you. So your December 31st paycheck will be off a bit, maybe. And you'll have to figure out how much of your Jan 15 paycheck was money earned in 2007. It won't be a big difference, but..... anyone??

It just doesn't seem like ALPA should have ANY excuse for not providing this information in a timesly matter (maybe that grammer isn't so good but you get the idea). Employers are required to provide W-2's by the end of January and ALPA should have a similar standard. We pay thousands of dollars a year to the union ... it seems like the least they can provide in return (no smileys).
