What you're suggesting is that if you get kicked off your fleet, you are fair game to be placed anywhere.

What's the right answer?

What you just said is right. You bid what your seniority can hold. If you get moved from your current fleet, seat (ie displaced) then you move to what ever your seniority can hold.....via your sys pref. In that order.

I was just saying that Man Power cannot move people whenever they need to. UNLESS you are a probie and there is an aircraft retirement, retirement age change..........

FishAlaska, why not call the IPA and get the facts rather than "advice" from a forum?

Unless you're willing to gamble your future on said advice?

Great plan, but I am not sure the IPA knows what is really going to happen. I do know that all of us APC crack addicts have the solution to everything.

Fish,
Are you trying to get displaced? So you get the paid move?

You don't think the IPA knows the correct way to format a standing bid?

That is exactly what I have been asking. If I put -400 #1 I think I get a vacancy bid which results in no paid move and a 3 year seat lock combined with only being able to come back to an original vacancy at some time many years from now. I like fishing, but within reason I can convince my wife for a few years but not a decade. If I put it #2 I get (hopefully) displaced with displacement rights and a paid move but no guarantee of getting to go up to my favorite fishing spots if the displacements do not go up high enough on my fleet. Am I understanding the process correctly??? I am not trying to guess the system, just trying to understand it so I can explain the choices to my family and the risks with either choice.

If you really want to go and displacement rights are not as important as fishing, list ANC first. If you only want to go if you have displacement rights (and possibly give up fishing), list your current seat first followed by ANC. You'll have to do the risk vs reward scenario and decide how bad you really want to go. Unless you are on the very bottom of your seat, there is no magic formula to tell what will happen during a displacement.

CactusCrew 02-15-2008 05:32 PM

Would using the code "998" bid (only if paid move) with ANC as #1 choice help Fish accomplish his goal of a paid move to ANC ?

I presume it would nulify his displacement rights back to the lower 48 though ... which I think is also part of his master plan with the family.

I'm new here too, so I'm not sure about some of this.

But I don't like fishing THAT much ... plenty of "species unknown" and "not suitable for consumption" to be had from the mighty Ohio River. That is what doesn't find its way in to the break room or a food simulator ...

Thanks for making this a great thread. Going to bed.
