Default A bit confused on political threads

I'm a bit confused on the censuring or non-censuring of threads on the basis of politics. What constitutes a political thread? Does a discussion on the national race pertaining to our profession (Dem vs Rep) qualify? How about a thread about President Sarkozy of France and how his policies will affect our hub and new domocile in France? The Mayor of Oakland, Newark, Memphis or Anchorage could profoundly affect our operations there. Does a race for those offices constitute an "out of bounds" thread? As FDX pilots (and other operators) we have a wide and disparate view of the elected leadership landscape. Why can we not discuss it here (as long as profanity and the "idiot" word are not used? This forum is supposed to be "for us, about us". We have moderators to prevent abusive use of the forum and to protect the founders interests, we understand that. It's a tough job no doubt. Just remaining impartial must be a challenge (politically). But you guys stepped up to the job, so no self interest allowed (unless of course you join in ). Hope to get a little productive discussion here.

My .02,

Nothing needs to be discussed. This is an "Airline Pilot Forum". We talk about airline stuff. It shouldn't take a discussion, to know which candidate would be better for the piloting profession. And, that's what this forum is about.

Any more to the discussion would not be centered on aviation. It would be centered on a multitude of things, that I couldn't care less about, what anyone on here thinks.

Right on. I Agree with allowing pilot related political discussion, e.g. someone said that one candidate is against the RLA, well, is that bad? I don't know if it is or isn't but I would like to know more.

Question

Does anyone think Fred Smith, and the business relationships he makes with his friends in Washington, are apolitical?

Strange. The presidential election will have a direct effect on pilots lives, and it's censored it a way that would make Kim Jong Il proud. But we have page after page about the XXX pilot that molests little boys.

Nope, he's polypolitical. He throws money at everyone.

If you have a problem with the terms of service, please PM HSLD or Freight Dog and they can explain it to you.

Topics Not for Discussion

There are currently NO forums that provide a venue for discussing politics or religion. While DreamLaunch Media Ltd. and Airline Pilot Central embrace the diversity the world has to offer, these subjects often are very emotional and there are many different views. In our experience the wide range of views and emotions rarely contribute to a harmonious online community or beneficial contributions to the piloting profession.

Here's what HSLD recently had to say regarding political/religious threads:

First, political discussions are against the forum terms of service (as are threads focused on religion). As the TOS suggests, we encourage all forum users to engage the political process and exercise your right as a citizen.

The forum is first and foremost a venue to discuss issues that affect working airline pilots. Of course the tone of the oval office towards labor clearly impacts pilots - we understand that. Our problem is that the anonymous nature of this forum has shown that any well-intentioned dialog related to religion or politics quickly turns into a grade-school insult-fest.

There are a great many online resources to discuss politics, APC is not one of them.
