Had a conversation with the offending newbie, welco9med him to ANC and explained the DP seriousness. He's now well aware of how it's viewed in ANC.

My impression was, new, been an S/O mostly on reserve, never been exposed to it before.... a lack of education on his part. His mistake. My question is, who's responsible for the education of our young? We are... so I made it a very understandable lesson.

So.... bottom line, he's well aware of the seriousness of the mistake and indicated a desire to drop the trip. I'll let him make that decision. Kept it upbeat and informative, but firm. Recommended he get with Guy and get on the mailing list quickly.

Probably doesn't need repeated calls from other Capt's.

Newhires get an evening with ALPA during ground school. That is the perfect opportunity to give a presentation and hand over some sort of education pamphlet. I don't think it gets done like it should.

Not only that but the first impression is an important one. If we don't think it's vital to hear about this process in the beginning they probably wonder why it is suddenly important 6 months into their career here.

So it becomes the duty of those who fly with newhires AND people who haven't been briefed or run into this issue before.

I'm so sick of this "new guy" bull****. Either you figure it out or you're a dumb ass, bottom line.

We have so many guys who need it spelled out for them in a manual or some kind of SOP. Look jackass, you have to think for yourself now.

The young punks at my old commuter airline flying 9 legs a day with no autopilot into the ****tiest airports in North America wouldn't dare to do this kind of ****.

Go ahead and edit out the cussing.

hschol 03-01-2008 12:09 AM

alpo... All they want is the dues check off! Education on anything else. ha. They have the opportunity to educate and they don't. Rant over. Hump's was packed, Iditarod, tomorrow at 10. Cocktail induced.

By the way, I officially became the 2008 Fur Rondy Crustacean 500 Champion tonight. It won me 2 lbs. of King Crab at Phyllis's. For those that are unfamiliar, it is hermit crab racing. You pick a crab (#6), name it (Sarah Palin), and then whichever crab races outside of the line wins. Thankfully, the Guvnah was fast tonight! :D

See you at the 'unofficial start' tomorrow!

P.S. Quit picking up DPs you ****ing ******* pricks!

md11phlyer 03-01-2008 01:01 AM

Good work boys, it's a process I guess.

T.W. is making me look bad, an ex-commmuter guy who should know better.

He has been notified by our FO 'leader' in ANC who used to fly with him in a former life. The choice is now his...

USMCFDX 03-01-2008 04:40 AM

He is not going to give up that double dead head.

Gigity1 03-01-2008 05:00 AM

He will do the right thing. I have known him for 12 years and used to work with him. It was a mistake on his part.

Check 6 03-01-2008 06:48 AM

Easy on the "you're not in the military" crap. Remember, try not to divide us anymore than we already are. I was able to figure it out, as many of the former Military brats have. I'm sure a few of the ex commuter bubbas are part of the problem too. It's all part of educating the unwashed masses, whereever they may have come from...

Cheers

Good work Cujo. I am shocked with KS, he had to have made a ds mistake too. I will contact him and ask him ****. I would think that he is scrambling right now trying to get rid of it. GL just sent out good email concerning dp's. If a trip is in open time these days, assume the worst that it is a dp and before you hit the send key, check out the list.

You're absolutely right. We all have our morons. Most of the guys picking this stuff are not on their first airline either.

Cheers.

Easy steel I am sure he will do the right thing. He is a good man.

Hope I get either or both on my reserve line.....no landings and (yes fr8, no J/S) no excuses and no slack....good guy or no.......not any more. I expect all to give me the same if I pick up DP.

What I was saying is that I am fairly certain he will not be on it. However, I have been wrong before! If I am then feel free to "fire for effect."

Because no one else will take them if they don't? (At least in ANC & SFS)

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Of course, as a reservist, I just might have a front row seat to see who's picked them up in the other seat...:)

FLMD11CAPT 03-02-2008 04:19 PM

So.....he's picking up DP's to somehow punish or get back at the "Union" (which is all of us by the way)? YGTBSM. Sophomoric, childish and immature come to mind. Where do we find such men?

I agree. Not the smartest tactic.

No that is not what I am saying. I am merely stating that all of us are capable of making a mistake and then correcting it. So back off a little. Just trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt before everyone calls for a lynching. Not making any statements about what is wrong and right. We have bunches of guys who scew this up every month. It has been a problem. I also hope to be able to someday learn to live the perfect life where I never make any mistakes that I regret later.

I appreciate your sentiments Cliffy170 but I think Fr8Hauler is right in reference to KS. He has always been a standup guy in reference to truly supporting our pilot group. I don't think it is over until the trip is actually flown. I think that is what makes the determination of whether we won or mgt.

Unless there has been some "invasion of the body snatchers" action going on in ANC this trip will not stay on his sched. I would have PMed you my opinion but you do not have enough posts yet.

Not looking for a fight, nor am I an apologist for anyone who actually flies these trips. Message typed in a hurry--feel free to pick apart my grammer and lack of use of a spell checker.

RV-7 03-02-2008 06:52 PM

Following this thread for awhile. Can't help but think that we are attacking the symptoms after the fact. If we had listened to the SIG before the last contract... pressed the union before/while the company turned up the optimizer.. which resulted in these disputed pairings. We would not be expending so much time and effort on harrassing our fellow pilots.

Take the time to ask yourselves.. how did we get here.

Again..so it's OK to pick up a DP trip (for 60-80 hrs + training + vacation) and call in sick and get paid for it...and as long as I didn't "fly it"...it's OK??? Purple Nugget here trying to learn from my mentors...Thanks
