Default Cargo FE

Are any of the major cargo carriers still hiring FEs? If so what are the time requierments? I am also open to any other suggestions to get in with FedEx or UPS, DHL. Thanks again for the help!

Are you asking about ‘entry level’ pilot hiring as an FE? . .OR . . hiring someone who is JUST an FE and will not be a pilot?

None of the ‘major’ cargo folks have ever done that . .and the only one I can think of off hand that might have is Kaletta.

UPS and FedEx generally hire ‘pilots’ into the FE seat as the entry level position and require 1500 hours turbojet .. among other stuff that I am no longer current on.

I was wondering about new hire pilots into the FE position. The 1500 turbojet time gives me a lot to shoot for. Thanks for the help!

"UPS and FedEx generally hire ‘pilots’ into the FE seat as the entry level position"

Those days are numbered at UPS. I'd give it six months, max, maybe less. Then all the F/E seats will be filled up by over age 60 guys and all new hires will go to the right seat.

Flying for DHL in the U.S. means flying for Astar or ABX. ABX hasn't hired anyone for about 5 years and the Chief Pilot says this week that there is no hiring planned at present. We still have 5 pilots on furlough that have not had a chance at recall. We do have a handful of airplanes arriving this year, hopefully they will be additional flying, not replacements. When there is hiring the best bet at ABX is have one of the pilots walk in a resume. Minimums are on the company website: www.abxair.com.

ABX still has PFEs (Professional Flight Engineer) on the seniortiy list but hasn't hired anyone as PFE for a few years. The last pilots hired started as DC8 SOs (Second Officer, IE: Flight Engineer).

de727ups,

What's wrong with that? That could be a good thing depending on the way how you look at it; Like us over 40 guys who are just starting out.

Forgot to capitalize the "E" in the title. Don't want any backlash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think he is saying anything is wrong with that. I think he is just saying that we won't have any entry level FE positions in the future because all the FE positions will be people over 60.

ABX Air has only 4 s/o slots..the rest are pfe's...they wont hire pfe's...Based on the unbelieveably slow progress at ABX AIR I woundnt recommend them at this time...they're not hiring anyway so the point is moot! I think it can be a great company if we could get the ball rolling. ABX Air Pilots (some)will not give up their open flying to bring back the furloughed pilots. Speed I know you would....UPS was faced with the same problem and they came together as a pilot group and gave up their open flying to save their brothers...not ABX AIR!!! (man did I get off the main point...sorry)
