Default FDX- Carryover trip and reserve leveling

I hope this is easy to answer.

If you have a carrover trip from a regular April line that extends into May and it conflicts with R-days in a May reserve line, do you get leveling?

If so, does it equal the hrs of the trip that extend into May?

Thanks for any help.

Gunter,

Not trying to be an a$$, but check out the contract and read this section: 4.G

I believe your answer is, yes, you get leveling. But since there are other issues at hand (was carryover a reserve or a non reserve trip), I suggest you read the applicable section and see how it pertains to your specific situation. I can't understand half of this document, but this section is pretty easy to understand.

Hope it works out for you and if this doesn't answer your question, provide specifics of your situation and hopefully one of us has experienced this. Cheers

I read the contract but did not go in far enough. The part I read (D instead of G) had me scratching my head.

Thanks for pointing me to section G. Sorry for the stupid question.

G. Allocation of Carryover

1. Carryover R-Days

The following shall apply to carryover R-days on which no trip is assigned:

a. Carryover R-day(s) shall have the R-day value for the bid period in which they occur.

b. If the pilot holds a reserve line, custom line or secondary line with R-days in the second bid period, carryover R-days shall be added to the RLG for such bid period.

c. If the pilot holds a line for the second bid period that contains no R-days, carryover R-days shall be paid in addition to the BLG for such bid period.

2. Carryover Trips

a. The total credit hour value of a carryover trip shall be computed as a single trip as provided in Section 4.F. (Trip Guarantee).

b. The total credit hour value for the carryover trip shall be divided between the two bid periods in which the trip occurs as follows:

i. All Trips

(a) If the trip guarantee for the carryover trip is based on trip rig, the first bid period BLG or RLG shall include trip rig for the portion of the carryover trip scheduled to occur in the first bid period; provided, however, if the last duty period of such trip begins in the first bid period, the first bid period BLG or RLG shall include full trip guarantee.

(b) If the trip guarantee for the carryover trip is based on the sum of the duty periods, the first bid period BLG or RLG shall include the sum of the credit hour values of duty periods beginning in the first bid period.

ii. Non-Reserve Trips

If the carryover trip was not a reserve trip the following shall apply:

(a) If the pilot holds a BLG in the second bid period, the remainder of trip guarantee for the carryover trip shall be added to such BLG.

(b) If the pilot holds a BLG with mini-RLG in the second bid period, the remainder of trip guarantee for the carryover trip shall be added to such BLG, and shall not be credited toward mini-RLG or leveling.

(c) If the pilot holds an RLG in the second bid period, the remainder of trip guarantee shall be paid in addition to such RLG, and shall not be credited toward RLG but shall be credited toward leveling.

My experience,

You get leveling for any carry over trip if you have a reserve line that month. In May I have a week of carryover from my April regular line. I will bid reserve in May and start the month with 33 hours of leveling.

I do not now about the C-I -C days that I am assuming you are going to make up. I have never done that so I dont know if you are leveled. Looks like I will find out in May.

You are leveled for both reserve carryover and reg line carryover. The gotcha for reg line carryover is that you are not leveled until you block in from the carryover trip. If you have r-days within 48 hours of that block in, you could be assigned a trip as though you had zero leveling. The reserve carryover trip gets leveled on block out and thus could be lower down the reserve list for that 48 hr assignment window. Happened to me. ONCE! OUCH! Hosed my whole month..............

Default Reserve Leveling with Carry In

What if: You call in sick for the carry in trip? Do you still get leveling? The contract doesn't specifically address the situation.

Yes If you get paid for it you get leveling. You get leveling for regular line carryover in a reserve month. You get leveling for CIA in a reserve month. You get leveling for vacation in a reserve month. I have 88 hours of leveling and my first R Day is Friday (love that carry over).

FDXLAG,

You get leveled for the carryover trip, but you won't get leveled for vacation until you start your vacation. In other words (assuming no carryover trip), if you have 8 days of reserve in the beginning of the month and vacation later that month, you won't get leveled until your vacation starts. It won't help you for the R days before your vacation.

So unless your carryover (or CIA trip) is 88 hours between now and Friday, you won't have that much leveling. That said, with reserve usage as low as it is, your carryover will probably get you plenty of leveling....

Friday is still in May. I had a 33 hour C/O trip, seven days of vacation, and about 24 hours of CIA. If you trust vips it adds up to 88+ hours of leveling for May. Not bragging as anyone can do it. Just trying to point out that we reward working extra at straight pay.

PS Don't want anyone to think I'm greedy, I left 12 hour of CIC in the bank.

Default What're them dues for?..

I'd love to become a contract sea-lawyer, but it ain't worth my time. Whenever I have a head scratcher, I call the Union and talk to Contract Admin until I'm satisfied. Might as well get something useful out of my dues besides paying 'The Big Three' their 98 hrs/month... By the way, did they ever reduce that? I seem to remember them talking about sharing our pain. Heck, with all the fantastic work they've done for us recently, I'd hate to see them take a hickey like the rest of us common folk...
