As the company contract guy, he extracted extra revenue out of each of our hides!

SOOOOO glad I don't have a dog in the fight.
I've said it before, I'll say it again ... What would management say/do if I told them, "Capt ACP, I know I was supposed to make it to work today but I had some conflicts and I won't be able to make it, I "might" be able to make it tomorrow but even that isn't looking very good right now. I should be able to make it by the day after tomorrow? I know this has a major impact on your life and I'm really sorry about that. Next time? Why would I try to do better next time?"

Come on management lurkers ... bids/canceled bids ... FDA's/canceled FDA's ... practice bids/when we can manage to get around to processing them? ... What? You sold your house because we told you to plan to move overseas? Sorry about that ... Our planning for aircraft deliveries/cargo mods was unrealistic so sorry about that also? ... and we didn't plan our manning very well either so we need to have a few excess bids, sorry about all the turmoil that will cause also? ...

And when is the MD11/A300 CA/FO excess bid, after this one closes, going to come out?

How about, "OK guys, we've overestimated the economy and our need for warm bodies, so the last 200-500 guys on the list are on indefinite unpaid vacation."

Yeah, yeah, yeah: it's contractually not allowed. However, I've been a couple of airlines now that did whatever they wanted, then dealt with it in arbitration a few years down the line.

I'm not saying the events of the last year or so have been rosy or well-planned. Some of the things that have happened have cost people serious money and blood pressure points (needlessly, for the most part). I'm just saying it could definitely be worse.

If you were looking for a nice, safe, non-tumultuous job, middle management would have been a wiser choice.
